I have a question for the digital Gurus out there. Would it be possible to retrofit the decoder on the 36847 locomotive.
Then is it possible to obtain sound files from the website and then set them up in the decoder. So I could load Tweety. Daffy, Bugs etc signature sayings into the decoder and execute the sounds at will.
Wouldn't that be cool, and a great idea for the grand kids !!
Could you do it with a lok programmer ??? Or How could you do it ? |

I have not tried it with my lokprogrammer, but you can upload sounds, assign them to sound slots and link the sound slots to a funtion. |

Frostie,
ESU Lok programmer allows you to do that. I have compiled some song fragments and one liners and loaded these on a sound decoder in the Theathercouch Dortmund model. Also added light effects that are connected to the illumination functions of the decoder. Don't know which decoder is mounted in your locomotive. Suggest to use a LS3 decoder. It allows to record much longer samples than LS2 and has an additional illumination function (In total 4). Have fun.

Frostie, that is an excellent idea! Now why did Marklin not come up with that? When the loco stops, we can make it say "That's all folks!" [:o)] Email me the sounds that you want, and I will take care of it! Charlie |

Hey - I just found an interesting Looney Tunes sound site: http://www.nonstick.com/soundsJust press on one of the characters to the right ;-) The following are good: Bugs: "Neeh, what's up, doc"Daffy: "Mmmuahahahahah" and "Didn't think I could do it, did ya"Road runner: "Beep Beep" and "Beep beep (2)"Sylvester: "Aaahhhh, shaddap!"Taz: "Tasmanian Devil (3)" - this one even contains parts that can be used for the engine??? Guye this is going to be fun, and I cannot wait to se what we can do. I have been listening to sound files and it is going to be fun to see where this comes out.
So for once the locomotive has arrived in Australia before it hits the US. I have not seen on ebay. Has it appeared there yet ??

I agree with Adrian about the engine sound, it has to be Taz. I have also used that track when my computer starts up instead of the default Windows tune.

Call me thick, but I still don't understand what the 611654 does for adding sounds... ????? Will I need one of these when Charlie offers the Looney sound upgrade??

Adrian:
It makes the conversion a little easier. The lights on this loco are leds connected on a flexible connector strip. The Trix board allows and easy way to connect the lights back up and a socket for the installation of the sound decoder. Note that these engines have a spot for a speaker in the underframe. It can be done without the Trix board, but this is a neater solution.

Lutz: I have been able to obtain the Trix board for this conversion. I assume that the one red and the two brown wires get re-connected in the exact same place on the Trix board as the Marklin board? r/mark |

Seems cheaper to me,since you don't need the decoder anyway. Bart |

Hi Lutz,
One quick question. Which Decoder did you use exactly? Are you still happy with it?
Thanks, Bob

Thanks for the info Lutz.
I've fitted the PCB, and installed an ESU LP mfx - very easy installation!
What speaker is the mount underneath the loco designed for? The standard 23mm in the ESU LS mfx is too large. I've ordered an ESU 20mm unit. Do Märklin specify a speaker?

After doing a bit of research (which I should have done before [:I]), I notice that the 6083x series kits include a 22mm speaker. I just dusted off my Vernier calipers, and -- guess what -- the mount appears to be 22mm ø. [:I][:I]
Is the Märklin 22mm speaker available as a seperate part, and what is its part number?

Sorry Lutz, and averyone else...[:I]
I had a "Momentary Brain Fade" there.
Of course, the actual mounting hole is for a 20mm speaker, and both Märklin (#508612) and ESU (#50441) make 20mm speakers...
I assume the ESU 50441 is a suitable substitute?

OK finally got around to doing this.
One silly question -- which way up does the speaker go? Should the the voice coil or the diaphragm face into the cavity?
I assume the voice coil faces in, and the diaphragm faces out...

Hi Damon Look at the photo above from Lutz and there you see which way the speaker is mounted PS ! 100 Ohm 20mm speaker from Märklin has part number #100622 (ESU 50441 is also 100 Ohm 20mm) |

Pål, Yes, thanks for pointing that out! I was carried away with the ETE article, where the photo was somewhat unclear, and forgot to check Lutz's photos [:I] I independently figured out that the voice coil goes outwards, since the retaining bracket has a suitably placed stud to press against it. In this installation (with an ESU 50441 speaker), there is no need for grinding, since the wires pass across the back of the speaker and through the channel without fouling the bracket. This applies to #36890, anyway... The sound is good. I might experiment with some alternative sounds suggested in <s>another</s> this thread... (BR218) |

AJCKIDS Offers a Decoder of the Looney Tunes Engine. They will install it as well it has the Warner Sounds in it already. It works real well. |
