I think my studentbudget is blown into pieces
but, what the heck... Märklin will only turn 150 one time...
At the moment I'm interested in the Märklin Factory, the three crocs and the blue t44... but that list will probably become larger and larger for every day...

Right. On the bright side it's a 10-car set so buyers of the BB got something to pull ...

Huge array of new items.
Something for everyone, - or everything for some one who can afford it.
I just love that Yolanda boat. Maybe something for the grandkids to prize.

Well, BigDaddy - it's 800 bucks, but then you get your BB brand new out of the box
I'd never ever buy such delicate fine steamer from third party ...

It is a bit of a mixed bag really.
Yes there are some nice things (maybe the DRG class 17 moves from a want to a need)
The Pike coaches are long overdue, but a 1st and a second? There were only 6 1st and 15 2nd's built! where are the 3rd and the 1st/2nd class versions, of which there were a lot more.
Another airplane set, which IMHO is not as nice as previous ones.
Shouldn't complain to much I suppose.
Now where is the class 120!!!!!!!!!!!

Well John, if the US price is $800 USD, that will make it a bit better! Not much, but it is better than a poke in the backside with a sharp stick!
AJCKids has still got some of the Trix BigBoys (NEM version) without decoder (you fit a Loksound, or whatever) for $600 US. But there's nothing like a Marklin branded item with all the bells and whistles.
Note that Marklin specify the Suethe 11 smoke unit rather than the 7226 smoke unit for the 37993. Maybe they have put the smoke contacts onto a relay, so that they can be turned on and off with a function key, rather than having them permanently on.

Well they reissued a Marklin Metal set for the 150 years anniversary, but sadly for mmrcjohn, no Minex items! Bit of a shame really.
Lots of other nice items, the BR85, the Tee Coaches, the V200, another BR01, plus the new Swiss items.
We now have a Connect-6021 device, where is the Connect-60212 device?

Luckily, I've had my BB for several years now and it was new when purchased. Runs like a watch. All those wheels and rods moving is really something to see. It easily pulls 30 or more freight cars. Sorry, I mean wagons.
This should knock down the eBay price a little.

Interesting, I wonder if we will see trelex couplers on the 37993 BB ?? I currently have three BB's and that is enough for me.

Of course, of course - those with the fat engines got the bragging rights ...
Seriously, Nikos - how does that front coupler hold with this. Are you satisfied

I am not that satisfied with that "double consist" i placed these locos like that just to take the a picture and brag later
.
Speed steps caused me a trouble cause the one is fx and the other mfx, i have not figured out a way for a more harmonic consist.
Of course i am worried about the volnurable edge parts of the BB, these locos are very strong and they might crash some of these parts. while pulling.

I might have to re-mortgage the house
Also, I notice that the Trix new items included a nice selection of Era I wagons
I think a Big Boy and US wagon set is in line
I like the Crocs, but I really have no use for 3, especially one in NYCL colours! WTF were they thinking????
Sorry, I don't read German, but can anyone explain what that's about?
Cheers,
Damon

But only if they never touched the transmission's metal gears ... [}:)]
My best guess re motors: Gators - DCM [^], Crocos - SDS [8)]
John, I'd say you're right on the money with regard to the motor types for the Gators. One of the icons associated with this set is the 5 pole HE icon, which usually indicates it is a DCM with 5 pole HE motor. Suits me fine, as it keeps the cost down, given our currency has disappeared south of the euro.

Hi: While I agree with the sentiment that it is nice to see some stuff from the USA in the catalog, hasn't Märklin produced at least two other Big Boys with sound? It's easy to just change the road number, but I don't see this as a very interesting offering if you already have one.
Is demand for Big Boys that insatiable? Isn't Märklin going to run out of prototype road numbers soon?--MM

No, Sir. They're drowning in unsold BB's from the last production run. Thus the new road number
And they won't run out of numbers that soon. There were 25 prototypes ...

Agreed, but I don't have a Big Boy..............so............
Plus if some rich Marklin collector wanted to double head 2 Big Boys, now is their chance!
BTW, there are 3 Marklin Big Boy's with sound, 37993 is the 4th one. You forgot the weathered version of the Big Boy. So we have 37990 (2001 Insider), 37991 (2004 Insider), 37992 (Weathered BB), 37993 (2009 version).

Wrong!
You forgot some other Big Boys too...
34990 4013 Delta (don´t think there was sound)
37990 4013 Digital FX
29848 4015 Digital FX
37991 4012 MFX
37992 4012 MFX (weathered)
37993 4006 MFX
So you can have a total of 6 Big Boys now! Strangely they used the same number on the weathered version. Did really anyone buy the 34990??
I only have 37990 and 37991...
I found 4 engines I want for this year. Couldn´t Märklin produce boring models soon so I can catch up.
37624 F7, my first review
My layout in construction.

While I generally like the new items, have you seen this years insidercar? A replica of an old one, and it still needs to be assembled.
Maybe its time to stop my insider membership, this is not what I hoped for...

It seems Märklin has changed the new Big Boy a little. In the news-catalouge it says the smoke generator is a function just as on the 37990. Good news if that´s so. But the lit numberboards doesn´t have a separate function key, so propably it will be lit together with the front light.
Is it worth getting another Big Boy? To me it´s right now very much money. But if it will keep it´s value I´ll rethink it.
I saw one (37991) on tradera which was sold for 680 Euros. That´s about 40 Euros more than I paid

Or maybe there is a global financial crisis forcing everyone to cut down on expensive development. Given the fact that the market is not very stable at the moment, this would not be the time to gamble. You are better off re-issuing some sure winner products instead.
Roco does the same thing. Nothing really new. But hey! I don't mind since this will help catching up on some of the "old" new items from last year. :-)

My belief is that Maeklin offers this year food that has been recooked. No real new toolings with the exception of steamers like BR 39 (which had to be new design anyway as Insider) and BR 23, E10 and some other minor ones. All the rest are remakes of older models (talking about locomotives primarily). In that context I feel a bit disappointed, but hey... I am addicted to Maerklin and therefore I find even in this poor selection some very interesting items. However if one wants to make the comparison with past years there were much more new toolings in i.e. 2006 than this year, which is 150 Jubilee Year anyhow.
First of all
Le Capitole (28590
)
is a long desired item by me. Thus only for this great remake (full metal) I can cope up with M*'s lack of new toolings.
Then
39182 (BR218
)
will be an addition to my collection of BR218s. And orange is a great colour for this loc. Good job Maerklin.
I even think about ordering
39972
the Era III catenary maintenance vehicle as I like very much the red colouring and the fact that it carries the auxiliary waggon.
As far as steamers, the fictious
BR 53.0
with the Messerschmidt airplanes
carried in waggons is an excellent train consist and I very much look forward to put my hands on it.
37097 (BR85
)
is also a steamer that I will think about ordering.
37575 E03
Vorserienversion is a must as I do not have any of the experimentation series of BR103. I have all the rest carrying the two rows of airducts but none of the first series. And having sound function and lighted cabins is a great feature for this great locomotive.
37501 and 37503 (ET 420
)
are also a must although the plastic housing is not my favorite! I saw the TRIX models in IMA Koeln and I was wondering how soon Maerklin would issue them in AC. Luckilly it took them only a couple of months!
Ludmilla lime transport train (26551
)
is also an interesting suggestion, especially because of the weathering of the lime carrying waggons. I am curious however to see if Maerklin will correct the lack of traction of Ludmilla by adding two more rubber tires (it only has two rubber tires, each in different axle and different boggie and therefore the traction is disappointingly poor!)
37626 MAK 1206
is an interesting addition as it mainly conists of metal and finally:
BIG BOY 37993
is tempting although I am looking for the 37990 version which is more compatible with my old and trustworthy 6021 control.
However the new
60128
connection device will put me in further temptation, to buy CSII (60213) and tie it up to my 6021-6051-6036-6040 consist of digital devices.
We'll see. Hopefully M* will put out some other interesting items this year. For example I am very much looking for a Era V version of the BR110 (BR112 maybe?) in red DB colours!
It is going to be another great modelling year!
See you in Goeppingen in September!
and 60128

Symeon, thanks for that in depth post. I enjoyed reading your thoughts and opinions about the 2009 New Items!
I'm still putting together a list of those items I must have and would like to have. It's longer than I first thought it would be. [:I]
I just talked with a friend last night who shares your view in your first 2 sentences. And as much as I would like to meet you in September, I feel my list of items this year will prevent me from having the spare $$$ to make that trip.

- think this over, please. I fear you won't be all too happy with such choice.
BBs 29848 and 37990 got the same weak, thin sounds as the Mikado ... [8)]
I easily run the stronger BB 37991 (and up) with my good old CU6021.
By using both addresses (40 and 41) I even get 9 functions from her.
Our dear friend Hans Martin (hmsfx) discovered this feature a few years back

[size=2]<font face="Tahoma]Thanks for the good point John.
I wanted also to get a grip on 37991 or even the weathered 37992 but I could not find one in Ebay (at least at a decent price). There was only one 37991 selling at 1000 Euro. Therefore I ended up just a few minutes ago winning a bid in Ebay for a new 37990 for 530 Euro. I think it is a good price and I am satisfied in that sense. Remains to see if the model will be received Ok.</font id="Tahoma]

Ooops, sorry Symeon - I didn't know ... [:I][:I][:I]
On the other hand no problem - her sounds aren't that bad at all, just a bit on the weak side.
This can be overcome by adjusting her volume switch to MAX (you have steam sound, whistle & bell) [:p]
(and should you really want more your dealer can always fit another decoder - locos are identical)
And my congratulations, Symeon - at €530 it was an excellent deal, in any case

I have both 37990 and 37991 as I mentioned in earlier posts.
I prefer driving with the 37991 because of the sounds are much better. But it´s to bad you can´t switch off the smoke generators. So if I want smoke I drive with the 37990 which has a function key for smoke generators.
I don´t want to risk ruin my 37991 by adding a relay so it will be smoke-free.
37993 seems to have a function key for switching on/off smoke. Propably replaced by the lighting for the number boards. I would like to have example of the new sounds. Märklin did that for 37991 on their homepage. I´d like to see much more of this.

I bought the BB of the 29848 with its box for 400 euros.
An outsider.
I'm looking for the owner of that horse. He's tall, blonde, he smokes a cigar, and he's a pig!

That was not expensive. I paid about 850 Euros for 37990 and 750 for the 37991 when they were released.
I think Märklin should produce a turntable for Big Boy soon :-) At least a locomotive shed for him. Does anyone have any tip on a suiteable locomotive shed for Big Boys?
