Hi,

Anybody knows if last version (or any other) of 3047 BR44 was sold without Telex and without smoke generator?

I thought that all 3047's had Telex and smoke generator, but have seen one for sale that has none of those features. Only standard coupler and no smoke.

The fact is that the locomotive is in VGC and the price is fair, but I would not like to get it if it has been modified from its original condition.

It comes with an original box (typical 80's box with colour locos pictures on it -NOT the blue box-, I think is the last box these locos were sold with).

Is it possible that this loco had no Telex and no smoke when new?

Many thanks.

Xavi

Could it be an earlier 3027, or the anniversary edition 3108, which someone has put into a 3047 box?

Hi Ray,

Locomotive is numbered 44 690, and body seems to be newer version (not 3027 body with "U" shaped headlight wires). I think that locomotive and box match. But if Telex and smoke generator have been removed, it has been a very good job. I think that perhaps these last 3047 (perhaps from the eighties?) were sold with fewer features, but I'd like to confirm.

Brakepad - I have a 3047 stamped 44690. My father bought it for me in 1966. It came with both the Telex coupling and the 7226 smoke generator. To me, it would seem rather silly to release the same model with a lesser specification, but who knows. Has the seller merely put the body of a 44690 onto a different chassis?

Hi Xavi,

I've checked Koll's 2005 catalogue and haven't found any reference to an "off standard" model.

Kind regards

hello xavi,
the above mentioned 3108 (anniversary model from 1984) was the only one without telex, your model is road number 44690 and thus quite clear a 3047 resp. 3947. the 3947 was sold as kit after the 3047 has vanished from the program in the mid 70's or so. with the models of that time (3047, 3048(BR01), 3005(BR23)) it was very easy to exchange the last two axles of the tender(built as a kit with the telex coupler) with one another and so to fit for example a 3005 with telex (i did that in my 'early' years). you should have a look into the loco to see what reverse switch is in it, if that has been replaced you should see it at the solderings and to see, if a socket for the smoke generator is there. i think that someone did some 'work' on that loco, but nevertheless, the old class 44 is still a beautiful model (in my eyes).
have fun with it

Many thanks Alfred, Guus, aos & trainbuff. I knew mr. Kern's page but there's no explicit info on different 3047 versions. From your replies I understand that chances are that this lok has been modified. Nevertheless I think I will get it as it is in VGC, and seller does not want much money for it. Perhaps in the future I can add smoke unit & digital uncoupler.

Best regards.

My BR44 locomotive is model 37880 with number 044 534-6 and does not have a smoke generator nor telex. It's a great looking engine and one of my favorites.

the 37880 and other 3*88* models are the 'new generation' class 44 locos, built from around 1996 on. i think other mould than the 'old' 3047 (3027, G800) ones. some of the new ones with telex and/or smoke and/or sound.
this class is my favourit of the 'big' engines, too.
