Hi All,

Is the 29830 HO Digital 'Era III' Starter Set the only one in the series that comes with K-track?

Has anyone had any experience with this set?

Does it come in 220V -240V version?

Cheers,
Ranjit

Hi Ranjit.

Every year there is one starter set that comes with K track. This has been so since the 70's, when K track began. The actual set changes every couple of years, so there are plenty of potential used K track sets out there in ebay land.

In 2000, for example, the set was 29805, which brought a goods train with a 12X electric loco. This set included a Delta control.

Have a look on the Marklin database for more sets. It will also answer your question about the voltage requirements.

Sorry, OT again ...
You're welcome. But imho I can read acronyms like IMHO better if they are capitalized. And NE1 is one of the less frequently used acronyms (is it an acronym?).
But maybe I'm the only one that stumbles when reading "ne1".

When I read "ne1" I wonder what "neone" means ("no1" would be OK for me) - until I finally find what it really means.
I often sign with CU coz I'm lazy and I think it's cool.
With respect to the international audience 'ere I usually avoid uncommon TLAs and ETLAs.

OTOH I'm glad if I can learn a new, cool acronym (like SWIMBO or FD learned here).

BTW: I didn't want to annoy you (I hope my playful reply worked w/o smilies). I'm glad we talked about it.

Hi. I bought the loco and the coaches coming from this set. I can tell you my experience about them, and I think it is the most important element, since K-tracks and MS are always the same.

Loco: class 03, era III, very good detailing. It comes with mfx decoder, five pole motor, loksound. It has many functions: steam motor, lighting of the wheels, whistle, other noises...
It runs very well, it is quite silent (for a 5-pole DCM) and pulls without any problem train with 5-6 coaches even in slopes.
Coaches: it is a classical M* model, in era III version. There is no much to say... the most interesting thing is that they never derailed (even if I often run this train)

Picture of the loco in my layout: http://www.piroen.eu/php...=a+plastico%2FBR03_1.jpg

That's the most important thing. I am very satisfied of this set. If you have specific questions I'll be glad to help you. Regards
Pietro

Hi Pietro,

I am glad you are happy with the loco and the coaches. Do you know what is the cat # for this loco? And, do you know if this loco will run on an analog layout?

Btw, why did you buy the lok and the coaches separately?

You have some very nice pictures in your website.

Cheers,
Ranjit

Hi Ranjit,
I too have this set alaong with the 29815 freight c/w Delta BR41.
The 29830 is a nice set indeed and the (green) coaches have Kiel - Munchen destination boards.
On the old MArklin site (marklin.com) it listed the 42750 as a complimentary set. But these have destination boards of Hamburg - Westerland.
Just be aware of this.

I do not know the catalogue number, the booklet just states 29830.
(I know what you mean thought as from memory the 29605 BR41 is a 3082.20)
(Original statement: No it will not run on analogue.)
Edited: You should not run these with the older blue transformers.
Sorry brain was not engaged.

Tony,

Why do you say it won't run on analogue? As far as I know, all digital locos will run in analogue mode, allbeit with reduced or no functions.

One must be careful not to use the old blue transformers, which might damage the MFX decoder with the reverse pulse, but otherwise there should not be any issues with pure analogue operation.

Is there something different here I don't know about?

Ahh sorry Ray.
Yeah that is what I meant I'll re-phrase my statement to read Not with the old blue transformers.

Hi Ranjit

For what I know, the loco in this version, with road number 03 184 is not sold separately and is available only with this set. For this reason it doesn't have a cat number on its own.

I bought it because I wanted an era III train with Loksound and I found a dealer who sold me the loco and the coaches, and sold separately MS and tracks. Two years ago I bought also a Ae 6/6 coming from swiss mega start set 29850 It is a quite usual process with startsets... I think they sell separately the single elements when they have some sets unsold. You often can get a good digital loco at a bargain price this way.

Thank you for the compliments about the pictures Smile

Pietro
