Hi all, I am thinking of purchasing a Hamo 38691 brand new. It is a model of the E19 DB electric in blue (same body as E18 I guess). Would anyone know what era this model represents, please? I cannot seem to find any references on the internet. regards Kimball |

Hello Kimball. The E-19 is the second series of the famouse E-18 which one the Paris Grand Prix of 1935. Era III then?? These were what the BR103 was if it was from that era. Very advanced superstructur design. The quill drive provided excellent tractive effort. Top speed was at a new level. Traction motors were bogie mounted with helical gears and integral cooling.

Thanks Spitzenklasse, Yes, I believe there were only a couple of E19, as opposed to over 50 of the E18. Do you know when Marklin released that particular model? regards Kimball |

Hi Kimball,
the class name "E 19" was only used until 1968. So if it's a DB model, it must be Era III.
I presume that 38691 is the HAMO model of 37691 (E 19 12, Era III, produced 1996).
There were four prototype locos of class E 19 - two companies delivered two locos each, known as class E 19.1 (E 19 11 and E 19 12, both produced my M*, GFN, Rivarossi) and E 19.0 (E 19 01 and E 19 02, announced as a new model by Trix).
E 19.1 have a higher roof between the pantographs than E 19.0 or E 18. E 19 have larger running wheels and different arrangement of ventilation grills than E 18. |

Hi Thomas, Thanks for that. This model has the running number on the side (cannot recall what it is, E19...). Strangely, however, it does NOT have an insignia, such as DB, or Deutsche Bundesbahn on the side. According to this link, the number on 37691 is E19 12. http://www.marklinciyiz.biz/ind...amp;id=275&Itemid=61It is still in the box at the dealer, brand new. The price is pretty good, so I think it would be a good candidate for conversion to 3 rail and digital with sound. I would normally be interested in the current run of E18, M*39190, but it has no sound. Perhaps there is no room for sound in that body. regards Kimball |

I think the first released by M was a red a/c version, around 1999, 0r 2000.

@Spitzenklasse: Are you talking about E 19? 3469 and 3769 were produced in 1994 (Delta and Digital, see hfkern); red era II version (DRG). |

Hi Lutz, Thankyou for the very informative post. By the way what does HLA mean in the context of system types? I found the link to the Maerklin MHI (for dealer) list OK and saved it for future reference. Also the earlier topic on the various E18/19 models gives me some options. 1. Go for the 38691 Hamo and do my own conversion (with sound). 2. Go for a M* 37691 I found at another dealer (brand new) that is already digital, but no sound. I already have one 37xxx series M*, a E44 (37440), and I am very pleased with it, so I guess the 37691 would have same or similar motor and drive. Decisions, decisions!!! regards Kimball |

Hi Pâl, Thanks for the HLA explanation. That's interesting, about the 39190, because I have had similar thoughts. What did you use? regards Kimball |

Hi Kimball First I changed the motor boogie from "old-big-sinus" to DCM (part # 307130) Then I used the MTC pcb board #113556 for the decoder, a ESU #62499 that I reprogrammed with my ESU LokProgrammer with program 62492 and finaly the speaker #113566 (which I put in the high roof of this model ) Now I see that I haven't put this conversion on my homepage [B)] I must make some pictures tomorrow |

Thanks Pâl, Yes I looked on your site, and the other conversions are very nicely explained. Anyway, that is a good explanation. regards Kimball |
