<br />I have the older metal Rheingold tin cars. Can you replace the bar coupling connectors with regular marklin style couplings that conduct electricity? Can these be inserted intot he existing pockets? Thanks

Hi Carl,

thanks for your message!

Basically yes - but...!

The metal Rheingold coaches have (5mm) shorter electric coupling bars than regular coches; due to a different distance betwee the NEM pockets and buffers. If you're going to mount now any regular short or electric conducting couplings the distance between the coaches will increase by 5mm; i.e. from 1 to 6mm. That's why I decided to retain the original electric conducting bars at my Rheingold coaches. wink

Yep, I remember those shorter e-couplings were very hard to get as spare parts too when I had crashed my Rheingold to the floor...

I don't know of any other commercial e-coupling assembly that is so short... Not even RTS made such shorties AFAIK...

Lutz:

Is there a part number for the shorter, original electric conducting bars?
Do you know the availability of these?

Cool.
Ta Lutz.
If I want to change the bogies on my tinplate wagons (4029 for example) to take advantage of these bars, is there a suitable replacement available?
