Hello Torbjörn,

the ski-lifters are not needed with the EcosBoost, so why should they be needed with the 60172? They are even not needed with the 6015/6017 (all tested on my layout).
Märklin put this information only for a precaution, not knowing which booster their customer will use (told me by Mr Lorenz, Digital expert of Märklin)

Hello, Stephan,

M* writes in the 6021 manual that ski lifters are not needed for the 6017.
They write in the CS manual that ski lifters are needed - maybe they'll write something else in the 60172 manual or in their FAQ list.

Ignoring the manual could void the warranry - no matter what Mr. Lorenz said; I'd prefer something written (that's just my precaution).
Regards
Tom

Thanks for the report, Tom.

Marklin should put the pink or notice slip with the 60172.

Hello Tom,

in the EcosBoost manual it is written that you do not need skilifters.

So what you need more as information?

It's working fine on my layout without any skilifters, just to confirm what is written in the ESU manual.
So if the ESU booster do not need skilifters, I do not see any reason why the 60172 should.

But do as you prefer. I'm happy without them biggrin

kind regards

Stephan

The ski-lifters were for a few things: 1) If part of your layout was digital and the other conventional, not to bridge the two.2) If you had a large layout and have 2 CU's,or 3,....one for overhead. (control units, etc) not to bridge the -gap- fry the decoders. These ski-lifters were included in the old 6021 CU.biggrin
If they are in the new booster,egad,....[xx(]

Fry the decoders, really? Fry the control units, OK, or fry the pickup shoes maybe. But how could it fry the decoders?

How about using Delta units as boosters? They have longer delay than the 6017 so maybe there is a need for ski-lifters if you use those.

I think the only place Märklin describes using Delta Control as booster is the digital book "Einsteig in Märklin digital".

The schema at p 73 clearly describes Delta control without ski lifter to the main digital track. (Of course, several Deltas should not be daisy chained, to avoid ackumulative delay, but all take the control signal from the CU).

I don't Märklin ever described using Delta control with the CS (or MobStat). In fact, to my knowledge Delta Control is the only available booster for Mobile Station, including of me known third party boosters. But to me it seems clear that MobStat/CS output should be isolated by ski lifters OR separate circuits to avoid destroying the CS/Mobstat output (or feedback) circuits.

Your right!Maybe a CU,ugh!wink But can anyone tell me if you have fried a ski,Märklin, not snow,...
Now one has ever had a fried decoder???Or been fried?
So try this; have two CU's on the layout, without a ski-lifter,now if it stalls and bridges the two, tell us what happen,...

There is the 60129 "Connect 6017" which uses the same parasitic concept

What is dealer/Lutz confirmation going to achieve?? Stephen's information comes direct from Marklin, and I for one have no reason to doubt that.

Yes, you are right. No reason to doubt Steven. It just seems incredible after all this time and as there is no mention of it in Märklin's Lieferterminlisten I hoped that maybe someone else could add more info... wink

Hmmm, well we do hope that the date given by Marklin to Stephen does turn out to be correct, we have waited over 3 years after all. Given that ESU have released the Ecosboost, it would be reasonable to assume that the Marklin booster will not be far away. I guess time will tell.

Me neither, as his and my source for this info are both Märklin, directly (maybe just different people/teams). wink
