Hi all,

I've been trying to make an overview of all special weathered H0 models Märklin has made in small quantities. (So no weathered models that appeared in the regular catalogues/yearbooks) Looking through the Kolls Special Catalogue didn't result in finding all items listed below, so I guess it's not complete. I realize that my list is far from complete either, does anyone have additions?

For now I have:
no: description: number produced: extra info:
28973, Glasskasten with 2 cars, ÖBB, 314 pcs, Special for Austria, with snow in wooden box
3117, 232 TC, SNCF Steamer, ??? pcs, Special in 1986
34158 (T), Serie 56, CFL Tubize, Steamer, 750 pcs, Special for Belgium/Luxemburg, with glove
37057, Württ, Class K., blue/grey ??? pcs, Dekopakket
37114, Württ. Class C., green, ??? pcs, Dekopakket
37541, Serie 460 FS Steamer, 900 pcs, Special for Italy
37569, Ce 6/8, green croc, SBB, 5000 ? pcs, Weathered, 2003
37773, Fliegende Hamburger, 2006 (?) pcs, Messemodell 2006
37963, BR 96, era III, DB, 2003 pcs, Messemodell 2003
37978, Mikado, 2004 pcs, Messemodell 2004
37992, Big Boy, 2005 pcs, Messemodell 2005
39569, Ce 6/8, green croc, SBB, ??? pcs, Snowed, 2001
37032.100, BR 38, era II, DB, 700 pcs, Eurotrain, with showcase
37157.800, Serie 26 NMBS Steamer, 450 pcs, Special for Belgium
83416, BR 52, ÖBB, 300 pcs, 100 Year Import by Kauffert in Austria
45103, same as 45101, set Geislinger Steige (no.1), but weathered, ??? pcs, Dekopakket
45104, same as 45102, set Geislinger Steige (no.2), but weathered, ??? pcs, Dekopakket

I hope there's anyone who can provide me additional references. In that case I'll have to look for more great loco's to add to my collection. wink

Thanks in advance!

John, I'm looking forward to some more references and other information.
Of course, anyone else having an addition to the list is very welcome to post! wink

Hello!

I know that ÖBB 3113 and SJ 3171 are weathered locs, but I'm not sure if they were not in the catalogues.

Hope this helps,

Hi Mikko,

Both models are indeed weathered (snow). I'll look up more information on these loco's, if they don't appear in my catalogue collection, I'll add them to my list. Thanks!
By the way, there are 3 versions 3171 difference: heavier or lighter weathered.

Are you limiting this to just Loks? There are numerous sets and cars that were made weathered, some in the regular catalogue. For example set # 2857 is "aged" as well as the more recent set 26730 (28730) where the SBB Crocodile at least (if memory serves me correctly) is weathered.

Luckily, weathering is becoming more common with Marklin, and I for one wish all rolling stock was made this way.

Hi Dave,

No, I don't necessarily limit this to just loks. However, the items listed have to be really exclusive, so all items listed don't appear in the regular catalogues or yearbooks. The items you mention are indeed aged (and especially the 26730 looks great!) but both did appear in a catalogue, which is why I didn't list them. Finding these items is as simple as browsing through (old) catalogues.
So, if you know some cars(ets) that didn't appear in any catalogue (except for Koll's Spezial Katalog) you're very welcome to add them to the list!) wink

About weathering in general: yes, I think it's very nice it's getting more common with Märklin to do so. Unfortunately for people like us liking these weathered models, not all Märklinists like them. I guess it will never become common practice to buy all Märklin models weathered.

Personally I'm a era I fan (and collector), collecting these quite rare weathered models is just an extra field of interest.
I've got quite a few items listed already, but when I found out that the Koll's Spezial Katalog wasn't complete, that definately aroused my curiosity.

Hi Dave,

Yes indeed, these car sets are great! When looking for them I've found out I've got them myself too... (Once in a while I discover I've collected many more nice things then I would think) The questionmarks indicate the fact that I don't know the amount produced.

The 37172.001 definately fits in the list, thanks! I'll look up some more details about this Serie 27 lok and add it afterwards.
I've found another one in the mean time: 33191 Einheiz-Lokomotive 2004, BR 17

I've found another items to add:

28332, the ÖBB snowplow with loco in weathered edition (snow) in wooden box with weathered C-rails (390 pcs made for Kauffert)

And... even better: I've found a website with pictures of most items:
http://bigio.net/Spezial...tiven/Lokomotiven101.htm

I think the list is getting complete by now... wink

You can add the 2848 CCB cement train.
There is also a SNCB tank car set #84854.

Hi all,

The cement train is a somewhat difficult item to add... There's one thing it doens't have in common with the other items listed. All items listed untill now are produced in a "normal" non-weathered version, and in a very limited number as a weathered version. The 2848 cement train however, is made in a "normal" weathered version. There's a special limited version of this item (600 pcs), but the only thing it differs on is the fact that it has another running number. That's why I didn't add it. Thanks for mentioning it anyway, Achim! wink

About the 84854 set: that one is also a strange set, since it's a somewhat different version of the 4854, but with other prints on it as well, but, I think this one belongs in the list. For now, I've added it with a number of 6000 produced. The source I found this number is not that reliable so I'm not really sure.

The 37845 is also a strange item, I'll not add it to the list due to the same reason as mentioned for the 2848 set; it's not a model derived from another model with as only difference the fact that it's weathered (and in some cases has a changed running number)

Thanks for all your help until now! Great! biggrin

By the way: I've just bought myself the 28973 Glaskasten set, I'm eagerly waiting to get it. (Although I'll pass it on as a present, I still wait inpatiently for the mail these days... wink

Hi all,

Today I've found out I can add one to the list:
37658.xxx (with .xxx ranging from .001 till .500) This loco resembles the 37658 (MAK, 6400 Strukton, dutch loco) competely except for the weathering job done on this model. Only 500 pcs. made. Picture can be found here: http://www.kuijpers-hobb...ts/images/marklin_27.jpg

Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for the tip! I won't include it in the list though, as 39820 is an item that regularly appeared in the Märklin catalogue (only in 2005, of course). All items listed are special in the sense that no official Märklin prospects and booklets mention those items. Which is also the cause of my motivation to keep a list, as it is not easy to compose such a list by leafing through the broadly available catalogues and booklets.

<br />...I won't include it in the list though, as 39820 is an item that regularly appeared in the Märklin catalogue (only in 2005, of course). All items listed are special in the sense that no official Märklin prospects and booklets mention those items. ...

No problem Sander. Cool The list is a good way to keep track of what is potentially a collector's item.

@ Stephen: Sorry, I only saw your question now, but here's an answer: the 37978 is listed in Kolls for 400 Euros. On eBay however, it usually ends up at prices around 280 Euros.

@ Palle: Congratulations on your birthday, I guess... wink And yes, the list is not updated for years, so 1958 is not present in it. Enjoy the model!

In the 2008 Koll's it's listed as "(350)" - the brackets indicate that only few units were sold and the price is therefore not really representative.

When quoting Koll's you should always indicate the year (Koll's prices were going down during the last years).

Tom

Were the 3513/3613 Württemberg C specials weathered? Does anyone know?

AFAIK the 3171 was also listed in the regular catalogue and therefore does not fit in the list according to the criteria I used. However, I may be incorrect, in that case it should be added. (But I'm currently not updating the list any longer)
