Today, I and perz took a drive to the Gothenburg area to visit Lars for a marklin-users.net meeting. Also invited was our Dutch member Sander van Wijk, now living in Gothenburg for a couple of months, and he showed up after some initial local train confusion regarding timetables and locations and such worldly nuisances... So it was an international meeting, technically speaking, and English was the official language. We all had a very nice time, and I think also Sander appreciated a good time with us "old farts" since the time (as usual) just ran away and suddenly it was about 8 in the evening and we all seemed very happy with the day... Funny how time flies when you have fun... I think everything important was discussed, including Eras, mfx, Märklin policies, collecting, technical details, preferences, other brands and so on... Of course some pics were taken of the event, unfortunately we forgot about taking a group picture but some model pics were taken... So here they are... A small train on the way to the beach... The "Badehosen" set... The magnificient "Klopstock" oldtimer... For our Danish friends... (Roco model, but still interesting...) T3 trying to register with Mobile Station, let's just say there is some room for improvement regarding that procedure.... Well, after reprogramming the Motorola address it worked ok without mfx... The DRG BR38... Even a diesel "sausage on tracks" guest made an appearance... As well as the Swedish version of the G8 (BR55)... And finally, the star of the show - the catenary maintainance unit... This functional model was very fun indeed...Diesel sound, work sounds, controlled pantograph, platform raises and swings - what more do you need? We must of course especially thank our kind host Lars, who I believe had just as fun as us guests all afternoon. We also thank you Lars for the food and nice atmosphere of today... |

Hi Juhan, I believe these pictures are really good! After telling me over and over again that they wouldn't look that nice on a "real screen", I didn't expect the sharpness as can be observed in the forum. Or are these the tremendously carefully selected 10 pictures out of the entire 300 photos set? Personally, I've had a really nice time yesterday, thanks! |

Sander, out of the about 70 photos I took these were carefully selected since there was quite a "quality range" to select from... Unfortunately time did not allow to fill the camera with 300, since time flew by too fast, as you also know.. Too many pics had the catenary interfering, and some were fuzzy beyond software manipulation capabilities... The worst example is this one, could have made a quiz of it... |

Congratulations Stephen, you won the quiz... Of course I would have obscured the number in a real quiz... The good thing with digicams is that you can discard pics like these and only publish the good ones... |

Hi Ross, did you see the wooden SJ-cars? If i remember correctly, it was you who encouraged me to open them, and enabling inserting better conducting couplers, and a decoder. We studied it at the meeting!

Hi Lars, Yes I did notice the wooden SJ-cars, I'm not sure if you had the lights on but a very nice set. You are correct re how to open them etc. I wrote a tip called "Coach Lighting" dated 07-09-02 on my tips page using the SJ-cars as an example. All good fun Ross Quote:[size=1" face="Verdana" id="quote]quote:Originally posted by Lars Westerlind <br />Hi Ross, did you see the wooden SJ-cars? Ah, so you did use English in the meeting and good times?
I bet you, of course, continue to use the Euro instead of the USD in anything you do from a financial standpoint!
If so, good choice.
So, how much alcohol was consumed? It was stated that you lost track of time and I wondered if that accounted for any of the blurred pics?

Two bottles of low alcohol bear, 66 cl 2.5 %... :-) Unevenly distributed.
Finances were not much discussed, as said, we had fun! As a matter of fact, Sweden has it's own currency "crowns" still; but of course we used international measures... (which equals domestic in our case). I remember we also solved the problem of correct lenght of passenger coaches.

I dare not...
But I got an idea. A digitally controlled coach with variable lenght. Full length when running straight, contractign in curves and minimum at station stop. If we can't get flexrails, we want flexcoaches... :-) /Lars

I actually think it was a Dutch idea, after all - they have invented everything else... (only plain water & coffee for me at the occasion...) |

Flexcoaches, a great idea.
Maybe also bending in curves, to keep an even distance between the coaches. |

Charles, it is the "measurement car" from some years ago that can measure speed, distance and such... Sorry, don't know the number... Maybe Lars or others can help...
It also has remotely controlled pantographs, which are much noisier than the one on the maintenance lok... |

It's NOT the speed measure car, it's the catenary maintenance car. It has two piezo raisable pantos, each one connected to a control card. One has isolated ends, so that only a narrow part has electrical contact with the catenary. Besides light in both ends, it has a "beep" to indicated found errors (could be put off luckily), and three measure functions, which of I remember two and use one. You can measure just voltage at the catenary, and if both pantos are raised, it shows if contact is lost between the two. As I have a non powered catenary, the latter mode is the one for me.

Correct, I've pretty much overlooked the description, however, the number posted remains the right one for the catenary maintenance car. |
