Steven, Thanks! - [}:)] is there anything left in the catalogue? That list looks lengthy to me, but then what do I know ? I suppose that a cleansing must take place now and again. Peace, Jim

Some of the items are one time series. I guess that the rest are discontinued so that a new model can be made in China. [:0]
Glad I placed my almost final order for rolling stock this year and received it too. 3% of the locs, 32% passenger cars and 17% of freight cars that I ordered this year are discontinued from the list indicated.

Of course there will be enough left in the catalog. Simply because a lot of the items listed are one-time series. Some of them are simply not available anymore for over a year (37964, 37974, 37055, 37135 and many, many more). Taking into account the list of discontinued regular (as in: not one-time series) items is a lot shorter, I don't worry about the catalog. You can find that other list here: http://www.modellbahneck...e/html/letzte_infos1.htmAs you can see, it's a whole lot shorter, and, more interestingly: the Silberlinge (4256 / 4257) are discontinued. Maybe that's a hint towards a new item: longer Silberlinge? By the way: an ongoing trend at Märklins is for more one-time series (with really limited numbers, like the most recent MHI items) and less models that are in the catalog for a long time. I'm eagerly waiting for my new catalog... |

Hello all,

Stephen, I don't understand what you mean with "specialized trade"; I've got my Insider package, Insider car, 2007/2008 catalog and 2007/2008 yearbook (including DVD) just by the regular delivery or pick-up at the local dealer. I can, however understand that (due to the standard translation process) some localized versions might be available just shortly after the "main market" (i.e. German speaking business) got its delivery. PS: The volume of your discontinuance list is only interesting when it is being compared with a) the total number of actual Märklin products (one would be surprised about the huge number - which is not solely represented by numbers listed in the catalog) and b) the number of newly introduced items per year or just in 2007. NO, those 544 (+ several more in the Insider yearbook) are anything but empty and NO, there were no rice corns included!!!

i got my yearbook 2007 under the christmas tree....and of course started 'investigation' and enjoyed it. after all the locos and waggons i reached the 'signal section', had a look at the 'new' light signals (not of great interest to me because they reflect the versions which are built from about 1970 on) and then had a look at the semaphore section.... and was very surprised, after 54 years the 7041 was gone, the 7038 is still there. now what is that ? a printing error (the 7041 is still in the 'active' product database of the maerklin homepage) or a hidden hint that there will be new semaphores by maerklin ? has anybody more info ? alfred |

Sounds like the Apfelpfeil coaches are gone - I do wonder how well those sold, given I was able to pick up both packs for just over half RRP from an ebay shop.
The Sudwind packs are still in production though? Still need to pick up the pack of blue/beige 2nds to go with the red/beige 1sts I already have! |

i think they didn't sell very well and then these are offered very cheap (copared to RRP) through the dealership. with this 'marketing-wave' i could buy the 48809 set (SBB freight waggons) for 32 euro (instead 84,95 RRP) and the 48690 (gleiswaagen set) for under 30 euro (instead 79,95 RRP) and these items are still in the catalog. i think these chances will reoccur from year to year, not for all items of course. |

Strange really, I like the Apfelpfeil set. I just wish I knew more about the prototype!

That was a hell lot of locomotivs to dissapear...!
That means,Marklin are doing a big changed of mostly all locomotivs in cataloug.
Perhaps, with the new SDS motor by placement them in the locomodels...?

just read the new yearbook more carefully, another semaphore signal is gone, the 7042 gleissperrsignal.....which is still in the database at maerklin and marked 'green'. re the disappeared locos : i think the times when maerklin stayed to a fixed set of 'base-program' is over (like 3000, 3016, 3021 and so on). i would guess that in the near future no loco will stay for more than 5 years, and there will be a lot of one-times series. and we will see cheap items on the market which are not successful like the sets i mentioned before. just saw a 39015 (new class 01) on ebay for 199 euros (fixed price), compared to the RRP of 339 very low and this model is only on the market the third year (or just two ?). alfred

Hi John. The year book which by now is a complete farce. If it contains items that are now no longer available then M are wasting paper and our time looking at them.
With the new items leaflets which have been available throughout 2007 I doubt there will be anything in the book that is unkown anyway.
With no catalogue for more than 12 months I wonder just how much new business has been lost by Marklin.

Hope Marklin is intending to replace the 39560 with a new model. It would be almost heresy for Marklin not to have a HO croc in the catalog.

References were made above to China, I assume in jest. And, Lutz wrote "there were no rice corns (I think he just means "rice" not "rice corns") included!!!" This is funny to me since last Sunday I picked up my 43880 (Rheingold cream/blue dome car) and the 2007 Insider car (48157). Both have stickers on them clearly stating "Made in China" and I don't think they are referring to the box! So, possibly changes in production and China does, in fact, have something to do with the chaos. This has several amazing and amusing implications:

Our friends in Australia should now get fantastic and really fast delivery with the canoe having to travel the least distance to their continent. Thus, the complaining from this distant and confusing continent, where summer is winter and winter is summer, now must cease!

There are very strick rules that no "Made in China" stickers are affixed to any items for Lutz or anyone in BW (Baden-Wuerttemberg; German state where Goeppingen and Lutz are located) for fear of workers and Lutz rioting. However, their laws are so archaic there that Maerklin is probably using some legal loophole such that if the box is made in Germany or it is put in the box in BW then they can affix a sticker that says "Made in Germany"! Or, maybe if Lutz removes the sticker he will find "Made in China"!

Perhaps production for those outside of Germany is now outsourced to China and for the German market all items are produced in Goeppingen to keep them pure and to satisfy Lutz and others![}:)]
In any event, if the chaos discussed above relates to Maerklin going to China for production, or management changes related to that, I'm selfishly all for it if Maerklin continues to stay in existence. The demographics and consumer behavior point to this industry going through many more consolidations in the next few years. Let's face it, fewer and fewer young people want anything to do with MRR.[:(]
