Hi Martin,

This is not my understanding. Can anyone confirm what you say?

I have always heard that if any part of the product is made in China it must have the sticker. This was introduced in the US as a way of putting people off buying from a country which was considered "unfriendly" to the US.

As to Europe, most people here are a lot more relaxed about where the product is made, though the products must pass stringent requirements for safety before being allowed on the market. This is then shown by the CE logo on the box.

As always, if I'm wrong I would appreciate being corrected.

Continuing on this theme,

If what Martin says is correct, and "Made in China" means that everything, including the box, is made in China, how would you label a product, say a locomotive, that is assembled in Germany from parts made in Hungary and China, and then packed in a box sourced from a manufacturer in Portugal.

The reality today is that products are rarely made completely in one country. How does this affect the "country of origin" rules?

I do not mind made in China as long as the quality is there. For Example I have become quite fond of Brawa items which are engineered in Germany but manufactured in China. they also make some wonderful Era 1 items that I really like.

I have a G 4/5H Item that is a liottle gem and I am sorry, but it is better than anything that Marklin has made. - However I do like Marklin also - - just think Brawa is a step above.

So made in China is OK.

The law does not require that the label be applied if any part is made in China. It does apply if the whole is made in China.
If it is made with parts from China, then the label would say "Assembled in Germany from parts made in China"

You can pretty much assume that if it says made in China, it is.

For many years, Maerklin and Roco items sold in Europe listed only Maerklin (Germany) and Roco (Austria). The same items when purchased in the States revealed that those items were in fact manufactured in Hungary, Slovakia, Rumania or other countries. These days, more and more of the labels say "Made In China".

Even most Chinese made model RR products have parts made elsewhere (Sommerfeldt pantos, ESU Decoders, etc).

Didnt happen in this part of Europe and I am sure Ireland will be the same.
Most european countries have their own consumer laws regading safety,warranties etc.

Hello Ray and all,

What Mike C says is correct. I did say in previous Post's that I do not care if it is made in China or for that matter anywhere else. What bothers me that the Companies in Europe are no longer being required to say where its Product is made (for example a Locomotive with parts from China,Hungary and England assembled in Germany is still made in Germany).
As far as I know (if I am wrong let me know) allmost all Startsets,Track,Cars and Locomotives are made at the Marklin Factory in Hungary.
Administration,Design and Engineering as well as some special Locomotives and Castings are done in Germany.
Most other items including Locomotives,Accessories,Freight and Passenger Cars are made in China.
The same goes for Trix also most N-Gauge Items are now made in China.

Other Companies in Europe are doing the same. Most Philips Shavers are made in China same goes for Braun. Heck now a days no one knows who owns what Company for example Braun (the Shaver Company) is owned by Gilette and Gilette is owned by Proctor and Gamble such is free Enterprise.

My new PCM (USA) BR01, came from the USA with "Made in Korea" on the Box.
NOt wearing the Pink Pinny, which is hard to see and now I have a white Pinny which also is hard to see against MY pure white Skin Still have 2 new shiny tin Hips that is badly in Need of Repair matching rusting tin shoulders
and a hose pipe on the aorta
