Hi Steven, thanks for letting us know adout this model 718 (AC 3 rail).
Mine just arrived and it is a metal body with fine details, so for the price it is a great price.
Will try it out tomorrow.

It will be CS, I think so. The loco have ESU decoder with loksound.

I was not aware this one has a metal body. several of Broadway Limited/Precision Craft Scale steam locomotives do have die cast metal bodies. their stuff is nicely done, metal or plastic. I would like to get one of their HO PRR K4 steamers (for AC conversion).

If one was so inclined and had a spare ESU Loksound MFX Decoder it could be fitted.

Love the K4! Let me know if you get around converting one.. I am really interested. Are they easy to find?
As far as this locomotive, it seems very nice. I think if you want mfx is just a matter of getting the right decoder. I have converted 6 of my rocos and rivarossi to mfx via lokpilot and they work great (with the exception of one that needs more tweaking).

I haven't seen many BLI K4's show up on ebay lately (I want one with the cast pilot, not slatted), and at a good price. Maybe BLI will brind one out again in their new "blueline", without the DCC decoder, but upgradeable. the blueline trains are less expensive since they have no decoder on board.

Had a spare 10 minutes to setup a test track, unpacked the BR01 and placed on the track. Turned on the mobile station to see what happened, lights came on and waited a bit more, nothing, so looked up the address in the booklet, programed that in,no symbols other than the loco I selected, then tried the loco, forward and backward, worked fine and quiet. The booklet says all the function buttons work on the 6021 command station, so I either have to upgrade to the central station so I can program the function buttons in and/or upgrade the chip to mfx, which is what I will possibily do.

Mike,
Did you try telling the CS it was a BR01 and give it the address.?? That may work as the BR01 was a FX Decoder.

Not having the loco yet. I did try and loaded the BR01 then edited it and changed the address. Got Icons. Worth a try. If functions do not line up may be able to program with a Locksound programmer or a CS.

Hi Nev,
I only have two mobile stations at the moment, (still watching and waiting on the problems that you and others are having, so until then the mobile stations are fine).
I didn't have much time to play around with the settings. I'm hoping next week to have a good crack at it then.

Sorry I intended to say Mobile Station. Add a Loco 39103 or 39104.

Then Edit the loco address to the one in hte book.

That is good news. Thought that it would work.
Mine (Christmas Present) has left the USA 4 December.
I say the Br01 left on Dec 4. CS is unknown.

Mine is coming through station 500, ordered about 2 1/2 months ago. I'm hoping it will arrive before the big day, that way she can wrap it in time.

David,
I have not seen a 39010 so cannot compare. However it look Nice, for the short time that I did a run for it was smooth and very quiet. Smooth Start and slow down.
However it had to be put away. Christmas present. a lot of small bits to apply. that will wait until after the 25.

I will have to find a Marklin 01 to compare. Maybe Adrian has One???

AS mentioned a bit higher up the tracking is spectacular, Looked at it this morning and saw that it left Sydney at 9pm and arrived at our local post office at 5.41 am. today.
Ordered on the 1st. Shipping label purchased on the 3rd, departed USA 4th THeir Date .

Left Miami on the 5th (Our date) and arrived in my hands on the 10th.

I know Steven has one (39010), he may be able to compare. He also has the 39050 BR05, the LH BR44.........[:0][:0]

Nev, I think you have the BR03, how does it compare to that model? (note to self: Don't be too eager, Nev has to wait till Christmas!! biggrinbiggrin[:p][:p] )

Maybe you can tell us how your gammy arm is instead!! CoolCool

Thanks for your comments, much appreciated. biggrinbiggrin

In actual running I think Just a little better than the 03. COnstruction wise I think the 01 is a bit fragile, looks lovely, but we will have to wait for 16 days for a full report.

Gammy arm went backwards. Physio got too enthusiastic. ended up in sling for 3 days. getting better now. More movement. not much power and some pain.
Running trains takes the pain away.

Thanks David. I will enjoy it . BTW.
While the PCM Br01 looks nice and runs well, there are a few things not so good.

Got an exploded Parts Sheet . all the Parts have little Numbers from 1 to whatever. BUT NO sheet that will connect the little numbers to with the part Numbers or descriptions.

They say the Unit is "Seuthe Smoke Unit Ready " but nowhere tells you what unit to use.
Shot them off an Email and got a quick Reply:
" we do not make smoke generator recommendations for the model. It was intended to
accept a drop in smoke unit but the service dept informs me that the
customer would need to wire the smoke unit to the track power. "

AS the unit is fitted with a Loksound 3 Decoder and from the Loksound Manual it is wired to the decoder.

Looks like their service department is a bit lacking.( amendment there, when I sent a supplementary email answers came back and for two items forwarded to the Repair Department) I may be wrong but has any forum members any experience with PCM Locos.
I am still happy with the purchase but the support and Information supplied with the unit is poor. (Paper info I mean) Must admit in most cases we get spoilt with Marklin.

I cannot have a good look at the loco for 14 days. How dose one remove the body of the loco??

PS: It is great at this time of the Morning (7am almost) it is still business hours in the US. Sent of an Email with a query to the Service Department. They answer emails Answer Back in 10 Minutes. Marklin take note.

Do you really mean that Märklin produces good support information (manuals)with their loccomotives?? The spareparts lists - yes, but the operating manuals are really inadequate - just as if Märklin do not want to tell the users too much.

Compared to PCM Paper the Marklin Manual is magnificent. Least is tells you how to take the body shell off.
PCM There were two lines telling you to grease the Rods and each 12 months the gears. that was it.

Word from PCM was that it was very difficult and complex to remoce the Body shell, IF I really want it they will send me the instructions.

OK, The PCM Br01 was rescued from under the Christmas Tree and put to the test.
COmpated to the Marklin Br03 I think the detailing is a little better and not as fragile.

Running: I had it running for about an hour., Different speeds on R1 Curves= No Problems.

Ging through Points at speed 9 Well not too fast but at a speed a bit above normal no Problems. tracked Nicely.
Sounds are good.
Waiting to get my CS to set all of the sounds up.
