I have been looking for a "B" unit to round out my 3060/4060 AT&SF "Warbonnet" F A-A consist for about a year. I have been watching on eBay and I visited every second hand store I could find on my recent trip to Germany to no avail. At the suggestion of one of the vendors at the recent MEA swap meet, I contacted Robert Frowenfeld at RJF last night and he had TWO in stock! Score another one for Robert! My B unit is in the mail and on it's way to me!

Congrats on the find Ron[^]
I asked Robert to keep an eye out for a 4062 NH "B" unit to go along with my 3062/4062 1960's set. I should check back with him again.

Unbelievable. I stopped even thinking about a "B" unit for the AT&SF F7.

Larry:

I have been watching on eBay for over a year now to no avail. Robert had two...he had someone interested in the other, but if that falls though it may be available.

Congrats Ron!

I enjoy dealing with RJF too! It's nice to have a few good M dealers nearby to say the least...

Her it is, all assembled:

It is sitting on one of the sections of Atlas code100 flex track I bought to try out the PECO SL17 stud strips I bought at ETS on my trip to Germany. If it works well, it will be a much cheaper solution for hidden areas than Marklin track.

Too soon to tell. They are still in the bag. I just bought the track the other day. I am going to make a test strip where this engine is sitting. I plan to do it some night this week. I will post my results. The cost of the strips and the Atlas track is about 1/3 per given length of the Marklin track.

Very nice consist. These F7 ABA (and ABBA, ABBBA,...) simply look great.Smile

Hmm, few years ago I remember there were quite a number of F7 B-units in various liveries offered on mrr fairs, new and 2nd hand. Got my own F7B at such an occasion, too. But on the most recent fairs which I have visited this year I have seen none any more.

Ron, keep us posted on this. I am quite interested for my hidden areas as well but.. how do you deal with switches? just put the atlas on the straight lines?

Also (on the B unit): how about using a US made "B" unit (such as Athearn) "sandwitched" inbetween Marklin "A" units (possibly permanently coupled)?

Don't see why not. I have an Athern AT&SF red warbonnet "B" in the attic...hadn't even considered using that. I do have the above consist permanently coupled, by the way. The B unit came with links and shoulder screws so I used them. My next project with it is to build PC boards for the front of the two A units to separate number board, headlight and Mars lights. I have a Loksound decoder in it so I have the functions available.
