Hi, I was wondering if anyone in N America has sent in their CS unit for a hardware and software upgrade as yet. I see it mentioned in the Marklin Magazine, but I am not sure if we should be sending in our unit to a dealer. Does anyone have an update on this? Also, my central station when disconnected form the power supply does not always 'boot up' right away. I have mine on a power bar and usually I have to switch it on several times before the unit seems to react. Not sure why this is. Thanks for any responses.

I am waiting for Marklin USA to announce that they will do the up-grade. I was told that they would post the news on the .com website. I also want to exchange transformers and will do that all at once. They said it was going to be in September.. but .. you know...

Hi Tom,

I talked to the Märklin repair center management during the last weekend, amongst many different items as well about this "known" problem. You'll most likely get a new unit, but you should make sure to send a corresponding failure report with it (which means that such an exchange will cause your current loco/switch data being probably lost, so for safety reasons I'd just recommend you to keep a record of the important stuff, like addresses, etc. unless you haven't that already from the initial "configuration").

I was reading my 04/2007 package last night (it FINALLY arrived) and was surprised to note that in the the article concerning the CS upgrade, they mentioned ESU as "co-developer" I think that is the first time I have ever seen Marklin acknowledge outside contributions and not try to give the impression that they are doing all the work themselves, even though everyone knows otherwise as in the case of the new catenary. I think this is a healthy change and bodes well for the future.

Hi Ron,

they did this in the past already for a number of alike products (BEMO, BRAWA, Fleischmann, etc.)

Maybe, Lutz, but how long ago? Last year I went to a Marklin seminar on the new catenary and the Marklin rep would not admit that Viessmann made it for them. He kept talking around that issue when asked.

I dropped my CS at my dealer in Ohio on 10-30-07 and I have it back with all upgrades 11-6-07. It was so fast that the dealer thought the package had not been accepted by Marklin USA. He opend it and to his surprise all the CS he sent had been upgraded. WOW what a fast turn around!

For all the criticism we have give to Marklin USA, it is nice to see them getting credit for a job well done. This just may make my decision as to which way to go (CS or ECoS) for my Grandson's layout.
