No wonder they were in trouble. They will probably go back into it soon:

(if the link doesn't work, search article 69281 in www.roco.cc to see what I'm talking about)

For the price of this one, one could buy two twin sets of Märklin's BR 03s, or a full metal, excellent motor, excellent sound BR 05 and still be left with 121€! 520€ for a plastic tender pushed lok with a visible speaker in the cab? BTW, the soundless, black version is 405€.

As I was saying in the Fleischmann becoming bankrupt thread, Märklin is possibly the cheapest brand, quite a few times already in absolute terms, but definitely in cost/quality terms.

Yes, I agree,

Some time ago I saw the Roco BR03 on a friend's layout. And I must say it is a really fine and carefully designed loco. Perfectly detailed, and the boiler and tender, allthough made of plastic, made a very good impression on me. Hard to compare with the Märklin BR03s which are more or less from the 1970's. However, it's as you say: the price, Oops ! [:0]

If I were engaged in that mrr theme I think I would still prefer the M* BR03, with tears in my eyes.

Yeouch!! That's really expensive, Luis. You could buy the 37452 Insider BR45 for less than that, and that model has a metal boiler and tender. The only time I have ever seen Roco loks in any quantity was in a model shop in Melbourne 2 years ago, and my impression then was that they are quite expensive for what they are.

Even some of the local prices of Hornby loks are approaching what I can get some Marklin items for ex Germany, so I agree with your statement that Marklin is becoming the brand with the best bang for buck in terms of features and quality.

I have 2 Marklin BR03's - a 3085 brought around 1983, and the other is from the 29845 mega digital starter set, brought in 1999. I wouldn't trade them for anything.

Having said all that, I notice that the Roco 69281 BR03 is available from www.eurolokshop.com for $US 534.67, which is way cheaper for me
buying in Kiwi dollars - $733 buying from the US vs $963 buying at the European price.

It is a highend Roco loc. The steamloc is beautiful. But the price to high for me. For that money I want a metal loc from Marklin our a Brawa.
M-track with a CS2.

Well, this is even more ridiculous then, if recently issued article with a suggested price of 520 euros shows up in the normal channels at half the price, then the manufacturer is being disrespectful of the customers (probably few) who actually payed RRP.

Well, this is more evidence that it pays (or saves!!) to shop around.

Hell of a price..
M for me...
I have a total of three '03's including two steel-blue 03.10's.
03.1043 a 3097.10
03.1022 from the 29845 Set.
Plus I have the 37955 twin-set ordered so that will give me the 3rd steel-blue unit.

The price is horrible (Froogle finds it for Euro 335 through 455).
But to defend Roco I have to say this is a real class 03.10 model loco - not a class 03 model with a 03.10 number like the blue one from M*'s hobby twin set or starter set.

The motor is in the tender, but 3 axles of the loco are also driven - I have no problem with this design.

You find similar situations with other classes, too.
You can buy a Piko Taurus for 50 Euro - or a M* Taurus for 200 or even 300 Euro. You have to know what it's worth for you!

Maybe I'll buy a blue M* class 03 loco with a class 03.10 number written on it - that's OK for the layout.
Regards
Tom
