I have been thinking about getting the Rail Cleaner/Grinder 9020 made by Lux-Modellbau. Is there anyone out there who has this and has used it on K-track? I would like to hear your opinion on its effectiveness and value for money.

Similarly, if anyone has the Wheel Cleaner 9301 I would like to hear from you as well.

I have the 9020 and it does a good job. You have to get the down pressure right for it to work correctly, but once done, it is good. Initially, the pickup shoe (which was quite long) would short out on some turnouts since it hit the rail. I put a shorter shoe on and it has been fine ever since. I have not had much luck with using it to clean catenary, though. Lux told me at the Austellung in Munich the year before last that you have to get the pressure just right, but I have found that any pressure at all on the catenary causes the car to flip on it's side. Not a big deal because the catenary does not need cleaning as much since the pantographs clean it in use. The only real problem I have with the 9020 and the 8820 Vacuum car is that they are quite wide and I have one spot on my layout that the catenary pole is too close and the cars bind.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Looks like there are not many forum contributors who have the 9020. I haven't come across anything as sophislicated (or as expensive) as the Lux-Modellbau grinder and vacuumer, but it sounds like it is worth it. Escpecially for all those hard to reach and hidden parts of a layout. I think I have just decided that I need it.

Received the Wheel Cleaner this morning. I ordered the Desktop Model (9305 . 4) not the built in model
First impression "WHAT heve we got here" A 110mm Round Tube and just over a metre long. to be expected as the unit is about 900mm long

Opened it up and it looks impressive. Has a Lokpilot 3 Decoder fitted.
Major Problem. Instructions in German and Manual is poorly printed with pathetic diagrams.

From what I can determine there are about 3 ways to wire the beastie up. may have to use 12 v Dc but not sure.

Awaiting Instructions from Lux.

More of this mystery as it occurs.

Nev,
My 9620 combination cleaner/vacuum arrived today but the instructions are all in German. I can't seem to stop the track cleaner other than taking it off the track and then it takes a little while to eventually stop and the vaccuum motor speed is erratic. Do you know what function buttons do what? Do you have English instructions?
Neal.

Vac Speed is by the Throttle. and the 4 Functions
Wheel Cleaner Switch is by the Light Function and then reverse
EDIT English instructions still coming.

Just dug out my notes for the 9020.

My personal notes for the unit are as follows.

Function on controller must be on
Start or stop rail grinder by changing the direction of the decoder (forward to reverse) or (reverse to forward).

That is it, short and simple.
