Hi.

I am about to make a control board for my layout, and was wondering if there is a program that can help me design the front plate for it. I could always draw something up in photoshop or a similar program, but if there is something designed for this task, that would be easier.

Well, I didn't think so in the first place, and I'd guess your lack of response means that nobody else know of such a piece of software either.

So I just tried OpenOffice Draw, and it turns out that it is quite easy. Here is my first front plate for the station control board:

The small circles will be 3 mm LEDs, and will indicate turnout and signal status. The larger circles are pushbuttons to operate the layout. Yellow for turnouts and blue for either setting routes or individual signals directly. If one blue button is pressed and held down while another blue is pressed, it will activate a route from the first to the second button. If a blue button is pressed on its own, it just operates a signal.

The black tracks are the main lines, which usually are operated through routes. Turnouts won't react to direct operation. At the upper left corner will be a master switch, which will override the routes, so direct control is possible (for shunting etc).

Everything will simply connect to the Loconet bus on my Intellibox.
Hopefully I can make the box in the next days or so. At least I now have the front plate for it biggrin

Mikael- Check out Uhlenbrock's Neuheiten, they have a rather interesting item out for making control boards.

I know, and that is exactly what inspired me to make this one. If my own project doesn't turn out well, I may make the switch to Uhlenbrocks new system. However, it is going to be quite expensive.

And here is the result so far. I found a nice angled box which will suit the control board very nice. I haven't made anything inside it yet, but that will come over the next days.

I have continued the story over at the digital section, as it isn't really about software anymore.
