From my shop owner i got a message.
This summer Marklin wil upgrade the CS, with a S88 and booster connection + new software. Some shops may do it, others has to send the CS to Marklin.
Now we wait for the protocol, so that the pc software can communicate with the CS. See whom is the first one, IB with version 2 software and mfx support or Marklin.
And then its maybe time to buy biggrin .

I think it was posted elsewhere on the forum that there will be no release on the CS ver. 2 until most of the CS ver. 1 have been sold.
Could there be reduced prices on CS Starter sets this summer?
That would work well with your timeline goofy. I'm looking forward to hearing more regarding CS ver. 2 and what the plans are, if any, for an IB ver. 2.

Below is from my dealer's (he is in USA) e-mail to his customers.

Troy

.....8. Update for Central Station soon available

In Nürnberg, during a special meeting for Märklin’s largest dealers (see next subject), it was revealed that there will soon (sometime in April) be an upgrade for the Märklin Central Station 60212. The upgrade will take the form of both hardware and software enhancements. Märklin dealers who agree to be part of this update program (which I will be) can perform this update for their customers. Per information I have received to date, the update will be free of charge. I will provide additional details as they become available. For the moment, here are the planned enhancements per a hand-out provided to dealers in Nürnberg:

--- Programming of turnout combinations.

--- Possibility to connect to S88 feedback modules for real-time feedback of switch situations; for example position situatioons of turnouts.

--- Possibility to connect to digital devices of the previous generation of Märklin Digital.

--- Control for “pendular” (back-and-forth) trains.

--- Possibility to save user data.

--- Stop command of locomotive and brake-noise can be controlled via soft-key on the touch-screen display.

Customers who already own a Central Station can update their product easily by downloading the update software from the Märklin web site or via their dealer, free of charge.

As part of the free update, an s88 module with connections for the Digital Central Unit 6021 and the Booster 6015/6017 is included.

Starter sets shipped throughout the year will have all the new features already implemented.

The intended updates will increase the functionality and play value of the Central Station.

Marklin HO - all eras and everything.

Thanks for the info Troy. Apart from that this topic has pretty much been beaten to death by at least two other threads:-

I know I am getting on a bit but the various threads and information on the CS update has me a confused.
From Lutz I understood that the software update would be done on our computers and the hardware would be a part obtained by mail from a dealer to be clipped in to the CS. If this is the case then why are we talking about taking the CS to dealers or have I got this all wrong.

David

And at the end of the day (year 2525) there'll be an entirely new controller (powered by crystals) [:o)]

John dont mention powered by crystals or another thread will start wondering when this update will be availablebiggrinbiggrin

It would be nice to have the official view of just what an ordinary guy like me has to do to get the software and hardware updates preferably from Marklin.

I'm thinking of doing same, since I will be there in April. An official timeline would be nice. Perhaps I will just drop it off at my local(German) dealer, since that is who I it bought from, and have him send it to me when it's all done.

John, everyone knows that electronic devices are all powered by smoke. As long as the smoke stays inside the device, all is OK, when the smoke comes out everything stops working.

If you ever see smoke coming out, you need to catch it all in a bag or something and quickly put it back inside. That way you may save the device from breaking.

I'm sure that the law of smoke will still hold in the year 2525, just like the law of gravity........biggrinbiggrin

Since this thread is already off-topic (derailed):

"A guy bought a new PC and after a couple of weeks the power supply went up in smoke. Calling the vendor he was surprised to find out it was actually a software problem. So the warranty would not cover the damage. Still coughing from the smoke he called Microsoft and waited a few hours to reach the software support. When he described the problem, the support guy told him to download a patch file "nosmoke.exe". To his great surprise the computer started and tried to install the patch file. Then he received a message: "Your power supply is not compatible with nosmoke.exe. Please replace the power supply and try again".
