I was wondering if anyone here has converted any Liliput DC to run on the Marklin AC 3 Rail system? The particular one I am interested in is the Liliput 104223 BR 42 in DC. I do understand that Marklin made a BR 42 as a 39161 and Trix as well, however it is just not the same Loco. If anyone has done this conversion I would be interested in the results and difficulty.

Thanks in advance,
Bob

Hi Bob,
I've converted several Liliputs to 3L, from both Wien and Bachmann.
The old (Wien) ones, normally have a slot in the tender, already prepared for the installation of the pickup shoe. You'll probably have to make a thread but the whole should be there.
New Bachmann Loks lack that slot, so you'll have to secure the pickup shoe under the Lok. I use hot-melt adhesive. A wire needs to be installed from the pickup shoe to the tender.
Also, you'll have to isolate the motor from track (as you must do in all conversions) and to join both track wires in order to take ground from both rails.
Also, you'll need to reduce the light's voltage, since your Lok is fitted with 12V bulbs. You can do that either by CVs or by installing a Zener diode in series with the bulbs.
Not too difficult, but you need some time to do the conversion.

Metpo and Jorge,

Thank you very much for your responses. I have done a little electrical work, this will open a new chapter for myself in conversions. I appreciate your response!
