Overheard at a Marklin Club meet in Auckland earlier this month.

"Everyone should have a 3000, V200, Rail-Bus and a Banana Car"

Oh so true. Just what I had as a kid back in the '60's

Your thoughts?

Don't have either of those ;) I've got 3 n-scale railbusses on order though ;)

As for Marklin, I think a big boy is really a must-have

I do not have the 3000. I just cannot get interested in the item.

I have an old Banana Car set, The New Railbus and a V200 with Maybach Livery.

Hi Tony,

This is oh so true!

I also think there are some true Märklin classics.Part of them, like the SBB Ce 6/8 and the V200 were unattainable when I was a child.
I do have the Banana car and the 3000,I'm undecided yet which V200 to buy in the future, but I'm sure eventually I'll have one.

Kind regards

I have all 4, though really the v200 should be the 3021, whereas I have the 3782.

I don't have any of those, but I do have some of the "Hobby" freight stock - I feel at least one of each type of these is essential. I think Marklin could do well to release a multi-pack of the 4430 - ok, not as detailed as the more expensive opens but add a little weathering to a train of ten or so and they'd look pretty good.

I would say that a Marklin collection is not complete without one of the assorted wagons they've offered over the years with "Marklin" lettering. Likewise, at least one beer van is needed, and maybe a sprinkling of special edition items.

There are, of course, items like this that fill two needs: it's a Hobby model and it's a special edition!
UserPostedImage

P.S. What's the reference number for the banana van? Just thinking I ought to check it out!

Got all of them. Even have a die cast banana car #326!!!

IMHO, I think every Markliner should have at least one German Crocodil E94/BR194 and a 2-10-0 steam locomotive.

I think 3029 should be on even footing with 3000. It was the first loco, in the starter set with the 10VA transformer and either the two passenger cars or the flat car and the Kippwagen, for many starters (like me) long ago, and I still have it (the 3000 was in the more expensive starter sets wasn't it?).

I have the 3000 and the banana car on my old 1960's layout, it's an old 4509 (?) car with tin plate frame. No V 200 and no rail bus here.
But what about a 3003 (BR 24), and this red 4513 tipper car ?

The crane 7051 is a good point, I think it is very common on many older layouts, and one of the most pedagogical toys ever seen. Generations of crane operators earned their first professional skills on this device.biggrin

Interesting topic, but if owning any (or all) models presented and discussed above is representative for a true Märklinist I'm definately not one. Strange, considering my enthusiasm, interest and collection concerning Märklin... wink

Basically: it all comes down to a matter of personal taste.

I have the crane 7051

A little bit modified, with the under-board mounting kit, an extra motor underneath to lower and rise the crane arm and of course digitally controlled with one 6080 and one 60960.
The arm mechanism is undergoing a slow paste modification for the time beeing (read: nothing has been done for a while)

I also have a two German crocs and several 2-10-0 steamersbiggrin

All this stuff is for the oldies. How about the newcomers? ;-)

I think at least they should all have a V100/BR212 and a BR86-telex.
And one of the electrics from the hobby-range... (The one with a billion different color-versions...)

Are there any modern classics among the waggons and other accessories?

Tough luck!

Actually, I think even a newcomer should have a 3021 V200. It's an ICON! The newer versions just don't have the same "feel factor" Smile

Oh, and a set of 24cm tinplate coaches, of course! To go with that 3021 [:p]

I would say a 3029, OR a 3087 or any other "single drive" steam loco.

Do you have pictures, Svein? Smile

Mine is controlled by two (on)-off-(on) switches controlling each of the two motors. The speed is controlled by a 10VA-trafo. With this setup I can control the crane very accurately, with smooth movements and high presision.

The time is here, MartinB

The crane, hidden away in a shelf somewhere, partly disassembled for crane arm lift mechanism modification.
UserPostedImage

The motors
UserPostedImage

The decoders
UserPostedImage

The thing string lifting the arm goes from the axle via two rollers (not mounted yet, indicated by yellow colour) end through the hole in the centre (yellow arrow) and goes through the center shaft, which is actually a pipe (not the original shaft from the underground kit)
UserPostedImage

The string will go via two rollers backwords and up to the arm, via a roller installed in the arm counterweight and down again to the crane house. The arm is spring loaded in downword direction, using the spring form an old floppy disk sliding cover.
UserPostedImage

And finally, I just by coincidence found the old wiring diagram a couple of days ago
UserPostedImage

f0 from 6080 is connected to a lamp under the board, to see the motor in the darkness.
f3 from 60960 will be connected to a small lamp under the crane tower.
f4 from 60960 is connected to the crane for the magnet and two working lamps.

Also in the old days this was a desirable loco and I think this is a classic Märklin item too.A must have in every American layout.

I wonder how many models have been produced of 3000, 3021, 3016, 3029... that I think are the most sold in the history of Maerklin (maybe also 3001, 3031...?).
