I'm working on Miniature Wonderland now. I also have a number of pictures from the layouts at the Munich Messe. I may post some pix of the S-gauge layout at the Nurnberg Toy Museum if anyone is interested. All American flyer S-Gauge (took me back to my youth! I may drag out the old AF one of these days and see if it still runs))

Ron, great pictures!. Do you have any idea who built the layout. was it a club or commericial construction. Detail shown in your photos is great.

It is a commercial venture. The Loxx layout is in the basement of a shopping arcade just off the Ku'damm. All the builders/operators are paid employees, I beleive.

Stephen(USA): Yes, the store had a good stock of MRR stuff. The Loxx layout ISN'T Marklin but the store had a bit of M stuff. the prices were a little high, though. We didn't buy anything there (Schweikert was on our itinerary, so we saved our Euros for them! Smile)

BTW, Loxx was running an endurance test on engines in order to decide which way they wre going in future purchases. They had Marklin, Fleischmann, Roco, Piko, and one other (can't recall) running head to head on a five-track loop. I believe they were up to several hundred hours (maybe almost 1000?)The Piko had already failed, but the others were still going strong.

I love the tiny diesel rail car. Märklin should make one too.

Tony: I agree about Schweikert. It is a great store. I spent some time grazing in their second hand section, but nothing on my "have to have" list was there. My son and I did manage to spend several hundred Euros before we got out the door, though. As to the large layouts, my wife keeps telling me that my 2 meter station is too big. When I showed her the pictures of the staions at Loxx and MiWuLa, she just shook her head and walked away. She KNOWS that I have a larger station planned for my expansion of the layout.

Zora: Marklin did make a little deisel ralicar, the Scheinenbus" #3016. I have one I got on eBay. The body was in "well worn" condition. One of the things I love about Marklin is that the body shell (aufbau) was still available as a part even though the thing has been out of production for decades. I have a new body sitting on my workbench waiting it's turn.

Hi Zora,

Märklin will produce a new model of this diesel car in 2006. Have a look at:

Joep: We were discussing ETS in that post, which is actually in a suburb of Stuttgart. The only shop I visited in Berlin was the one associated with Loxx. Lots of neat stuff but somewhat pricey.

John: Sorry I missed your post here. Didn't show up as a new topic. No, MiWuLa is definitely the largest layout I have ever seen. Northlandz in Flemington NJ probably covers more area, but the density is much less (one track running through several square meters of deset, for instance). Loxx is definitely worth visiting, though. Extremely well done and enjoyable. Merklingen is smaller than both MiWuLa and Loxx, but also worth a visit if you are in that area.

The shop at LOXX in Berlin is one of 4 shops owned by 3 or 4 brothers.
Mainly they sell second hand stuff all over Berlin.
If anyone is interested of these locations please contact me via email as I do not know if posting of the addresses is allowed here.
Regard from Karachi
