Hi Guys,
Whilst surfing Ebay.Deutschland for any hidden Marklin treasures,i indeed found one: Marklin 3111,the Belgian version of the Bavarian S 3/6 steamloco,in a bit of a peculiar color: the color of liver i would call it,with beautiful golden laterns.
Must say this version of the S 3/6 almost escaped my attention, there is so much focus on the Rheingold version that these hidden gems display their beauty in splendid isolation, like wildflowers at a remote country-road.
There were at least ten of the 3111 on offer,i was able to purchase one in mint condition, with original box,for less than Euro 100.-!
Note the 3111 belongs to the first production run of the S 3/6: the spokes of the drive-wheels are not very thin, and the steps just behind the cylinders are not yet there.
In a way,i like these sturdy versions of Marklin:neither toy nor top of the bill details, the golden road inbetween, good enough to be liked by a lot of people, and built to last for decades!
Check it out,enjoy!

Hi NS1200

i found one of these several years ago and fell in love with it.. It was analogue so I converted it to a Delta version so I could run it on my layout. Really love it . I heard a story that says that this loco was originally German . During WW II it was in service in Belgium and at the end of the war the Belgians forgot to give it back.

Hi Banco,
These locos are indeed German made, the Bavarian S 3/6 it is.
First built in 1908,over 100 pieces produced.
I do not think the Belgians forgot to give it back,i think they kept it as part of payment for war damage caused by Nazi Germany.
Same goes for a number of other loco types,in particular the P8 BR38,many of these locos were left behind after the defeat of the German troops, and then put into service by the countries where they were found.
Marklin also issued a Dutch version of the German BR50,this loco was never purchased by the Dutch railways,it was left behind in May 1945 and was put into service because everything with wheels on it was required badly.
Back to the S 3/6: there is also a French version, same background:left behind in France.
Would it not be nice to collect all Marklin versions of this beautiful loco?
I just wonder what the 3111 has to pull, would need to be oldfashioned coaches period 1920-1940 roughly, did M ever released these?
