[:I]Hi Guys...
Please excuse me for this follow up question,
Re-Marklin Gauge 1 Maxi,Glaskasten & Glaskasten Sets?

I know i had almost given up the idea of modelling in this large scale, because of it been impractical e.t.c.and this will probably remain the case?

It is just since my last post, things have moved on a little bit.

all i want to ask is, could you guys give me a rough idea..of the size of one of These Maxi Glaskasten Sets,I have forgotton how many different sets their are.?but you Guys will know..

I am trying to get an idea of what the overhaul size would be running one of the above sets..and if it would be possible to run one of the above on a relatively small but interesting layout?

what would be the minimum size I could get away with for continouse run layout?and still keep it interesting..i know it is not a easy question to answer,as their are many things to take in to account..

could i get away with an area of say 1.5m x 2m? i suspect not, but thought i would ask..before i finally wave the white flag!

all the very best & many thanks
Regards
SteveSmile

Just had a quick look in the catalogue for you. The glaskasten is 22cm long, and can be used with the smallest radius curves. However, that radius is still 60cm, so you'll need at least 120cm plus a few centimers on each edge for safety. So, for a simple single track oval with a turnout and dead end siding for 1 or 2 cars at a station for example, you'll need about 130x250.

Looking at the catalogue though, the stuff looks amazing. I always liked the S3/6 of the Königlich Bayerishen Staatsbahn, and they have a live steam version of that one now. Of course, I can never afford it, but it looks amazing ;)

On a sidenote, Amundsen Hobby has a set with glaskasten and 2 cars in stock for an okay price.

Hi Steve
Following on Martijn's post, see below link from page 113 of the catalogue page:(Thanks to the great Lokshop site)

http://catalog.lokshop.d.../2006/D/1/image_113.html

This gives you an idea of some of the sizes.Take a look at page 112 as well.

I was bitten last year by the 1 gauge bug when M had some good discounts on their items now I plan to put down a large carpet layout once my daughter moves out of her room and goes to Uni [:0][:0]

Hi Tony,
Many thanks indeed, for the link you provide, much appreciated...
Martijn kindly gave me some idea of the actual size of gauge 1!! and now for the first time i know just how big! it is.and having followed your link it just confirms now, that in my case anyway,Gauge1 is regrettably a non-starter..but as i have said to the other guys who have given feedback on this topic..i am very impressed with Gauge 1.. that`s for sure.

But i am very pleased you have been bitten by the Gauge 1 Bug..and wish you every sucsess with it...

all the best
Steve

Hey Steve

To solve your problem, just buy the set at "Amundsen Hobby" and put it in a display.
The set is 86cm long (54107) and you can get the one Gauge Vitrine display (59970) and display it until you have space to run it. ( the display 90cm long)
This is what I do at the moment:

Hi Tony,
Many thanks for your suggestion..not a bad idea..in fact i think Per suggested something similar..a small diorama (static)your loco looks superb! Tony..
Please don`t get me wavering again? i flit from one good idea to the other with alarming regularity!NO I must be strong AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!

No to be seriouse for amoment,I cant really afford to follow this particular route, and it could be such a very long time before..we are able to move to anywhere, hopefully with more space..
So if i am ever to make a start in the hobby, after all these years..i think i must calm down a bit, and cut my cloth accordingly..

So it looks like it will probably be HO but you never know with me..i have looked at almost every combination of scale/gauge/period and then some.
once again many thanks for the very interesting feedback..

all the best
Steve
