I just got mine today too... Boy am I in BIG trouble when the Finance Director finds out.. [:(] She is fishing this weekend, so I went to see old Noel - just to get a two bridges and two 60760 decoders...

I don't really know what happened - it was hypnotism - it must have been the box with a subliminal message written the cover in German that the mind translates into "buy me now"... Anyway - as the other pictures have expired, here is a picture of mine.. I am too scared to run the thing as it looks very delicate.. Nice box too...

Adrian- I would return it as soon as a lengthy investigation had been concluded to ensure that no harm would befall it upon return.

Thanks Shannon - you have confirmed that there is no lamp on the boiler..

Nev, I was thinking of bringing it along, but it is mostlty an analogue layout..

Ira -> Oh I know that no harm would ever befall the loco while it was in your care - it is just the length of the lengthy investigation that concerns me.. [^]

Anyway - Here is a picture from the box showing the light that seems to be missing from the loco..

The link got me to thinking, and I noticed that the lamp was missing from mine also ???

I checked the 37961 and it does have the lamp.

Must have to get in touch with my dealer out why ??

I always open my boxes over a white sheet in case there are little thingies that come loose and get lost upon opening.

There wasn't something loose in the box when I opened it on this one.

But it is a little simple item that can be easily replaced.

A very beautiful item in deed.

I think you are right, I got mine a number of months ago and it does not have that light either. At best it would be a dummy light since there is no "light path" to that part of the lok.

Went up to the RJF site where there is a picture of the lok and it does not have the light either.

Hi all,

The pictures used on the box is the same as the 37961 (the yellow version of this loco) which has a third lantern. In era I the GT 2x 4/4 didn't all have this third lantern so I guess it's not a mistake to have only two on the front of this great loco. But indeed, the picture doesn't match the model completely.

Judging by the very nice pictures Shannon took it's a real beauty indeed and I'm almost sure your Finance Director will agree this is a must have item.

You got me curious, so I dug out my 3798 (the blue version). No lamp there either. No lamp on the box art, just the same bracket.biggrin

BTW, mine runs great, but not much traction on hills.[xx(] At least, not compared to an E94 or BR232.wink

On the DRG versions and earlier there is no lamp. That's exactly prototypical. Marklin obviously did not change the photo.

Hi all,
just for couriosity, my BR96 from Bavarian freight 26960 and cod. 3796 don't have the third lamp too, and on the box the draw is correct.
The 37963 weathered show in the data sheet the third lamp as F function, but nothing on loco.
No third lamp on my old Rivarossi model too.
Very good close-up pics Shannon

All varieties of this model so farwere delivered with each two head/rear lights except the sandy painted "delivery version" #37961, which has three.

The weathered version #37963 was delivered with the booklet/data sheet of this model (part #605931), which can also be seen when looking at the model outline picture on pg.16 - this one shows the center front light. The booklet of #37961 was used with the special dealer model #37963 since they both contain the same decoder and thus all other descriptions apply to both models (I think Märklin decided to omit the creation of another document for this special dealer model just because of that minor difference - and everyone can see that the weathered model has only two front lamps biggrin).

For those also interested in knowing the inside of the 37964 model, here is another picture. Smile

Actually, it's not very difficult to retrofit earlier BR96/Gt 2x4/4 models to the new sound version (which will doubtless also be delivered with the five locos of the new Borsig series), just a few parts are needed.

Another nice and rather easy modification is to add a smoke unit to this model. Here's a picture which also fits just well to the current season! Smile

Regards,
Lutz

I simply used an old bulb contact. The funnel fits well for the 7226 (although I think I used a Seuthe #11 here). If you use a similar Seuthe smoker with one cable, it's just more inconvenient to remove the loco body and the smoker cable may brake due to its relative stiffness. In order to fit properly, you also need to cut 1-2mm off the steam tube which leads just from the bottom side into the body.

On my 3796 I simply replaced the c90 with a c91; f1 switches as usual the smoker and f2 switches the cabin light. I'm still thinking to further enhance the model with the mfx sound decoder of the #37964 as shown on my previous picture.

Since we got some new flakes of snow today, it might be time again to reactivate my snow blower with this nice locomotive. biggrin

Regards,
Lutz

PS: If you plan to do this change, do NOT attempt to pull off the front chamber door, at least the first time; instead push it out with a corresponding tool.
