Hi All,
I am sorry if this has been answered elsewhere but I couldn't find it. I am helping my father plan for the future of his layout now that he has Mfx and DCC locos showing up. His current layout uses a 6021 with the usual 6040 keyboards, boosters etc... The time has come to upgrade, whether it be Intellibox or CS. He would like to retain his 6001 and marklin boosters, but replace the controls and keyboards with either an intellibox or CS. The big question is: Can the old boosters work with the Intellibox (I'm almost positive yes?) and/ or the CS (I'm assuming no and M* will make us buy the new ones) I see no reason to buy a central station other than the MFX capability and I personally like the intellibox system better, but will go with a CS due to Mfx operation if we don't need to replace the boosters and 6001's. Märklin have changed their mind, so it will be possible to use 6015/6017 booster with CS, as well as wiht IB / Daisy. It's connected by a new box 60129 (in the autumn news) which takes the signal from the track anywhere. Note that the district powered from the booster will not have the capability of "feedback", meaning that you can't put a new mfx loco there and get it registred. Perhaps the CS will indicate "lost contact" (MobStat blinks) but you will be able to run further. It's unclear to me if you need special precuations when you go from CS-district to booster district to avoid shorts; in that case it might be better to connect a CS to a "programming track" only, and the layout to boosters. The booster adapter will cost you eur 69 each, which of course (as Märkin have planned no doubt) make you feel more comportable with CS, but it still also make you pay a significant amount of money with the transition.

I'm just answering. I would certainly not recommend a CS from what I know.

As I open up my IB users manual, page 12 has connections for 6015 and 6017.
I have two 6040 that I use with my IB.biggrin
To the IB, you can connect:

(602x need adapter)
These are the left/right side connsctions.Cool
(no need for 605x, PC interface already on IB)

The list of things you can connect to the LocoNet connector is too large to list (keyboards, boosters, signal detectors, etc).

You can download the IB manual from the Uh* site. Look in 'links & downloads' on the left of this screen, look for 'other manufacturers'.

With the IB, you can still use ALL of the 6021 parts you already have! Almost plug and play, no massive rewiring needed.

Well, though being a bloody amateur re electronics I was quite distrustful when it came to that odd, newfandangled controller ...

With DCC-decoders you save quite some money compared to mfx decoders.
In case you have bilingual decoders like ESU`s Loksounds and Lokpilots without the mfx designation, you can run them only under Motorola with a CS.

To exploit the full range of possibilities of bilingual decoders
run them under DCC, the IB that is.

If money is not a problem you might also consider the ZIMO range of products, as these support the motorola format, so running the bilingual Motorola/mfx decoders should not be a problem. At this time ZIMO N and H0 decoders do not support the motorola protocol, but their command stations, throttles and large scale decoders do so. In addition, ZIMO supports a proprietary feed back system for layout automating purposes. To use this capacity, Zimo decoders are a must, however,

I would say do nothing until the CS is available and we are able to see exactly how good or otherwise it is. Meanwhile a 6021 and if need be to get more sounds a MS will keep things going along.

Thanks for the help guys. I have to agree with the wait for the CS to do anything, however with keyboards selling for about $200 apiece on ebay right now, I can swap my current components for CS $, which I doubt I can do later. However for the time being the intellibox is sounding better and better. I'll have to think this one out.

Hopefully we will learn something from the presentation on Saturday in Waltham Mass. by Dr. Tom Catherall. He is suppossed to have a fully working CS and complete software. Bob Bell from New England Hobby will be attending, and promises a full report.
