Ok so I'm stuck at work until 9 or 10pm California time and am using the Marklin page to keep myself sane. So I thought I would start a new thread. WHAT IS YOUR MOST UNIQUE PIECE(s)? Whether it be an odd paint scheme, factory error, rarity, custom paint job, or just something wierd like a SBB Sputnik caboose. Post them here, preferably with photographs biggrin
Mine are (Unfortunately I am at work and don't have pix her)
Marklin 4689 Gondola in Blue-Green Color (in another thread here)
Marklin 3356 Crocodile in BROWN, limited to 100 pieces before Marklin made their production 3352. My crown jewel as an SBB fan that I bought thinking it was a 3352 in the wrong box!
Marklin Swiss Cheese 460, very unprototypical, but also unique!

Most likely my (originally) completely devoid of any decals or other markings BR 89 (30000) which I correctly marked with etched plates and decals by Gaßner and weathered. I suppose I could have wrapped it in cotton wool and silk keeping it pristine as a priceless collectible, but where's the fun in that.

Since I have the camera out tonight...
Here is a photo of my 4 oddest items.
UserPostedImage

From right to left:
the Roco 50-year aniversary Lok for the Austrian Army. (2005 model)
Another aniversary car, "125 years first transcontinental railroad" Union Pacific. Marklin #84735A. (My uncles and cousin work(ed) for UP)
My only Electrotren Lok, RENEFE 269 in Estrella livery. I liked the colors in the catalog.Cool
And last, two Siemens Exider cars from Roco. Part of a 10 car set. (I work for Siemens).

Odd to find Maarklin and Roco making cars for companies that my family in Texas works for.wink

(I need to work on camera skills. Looks better before uploading![:p])

I hesitate between two, both at
http://home8.swipnet.se/~w-85672/emj3.htm

The litt DA, GS800, were I separeted the top light, which as the prototype serves as "high beam" light, or whatever called.

Or the Pfalz engine, which in itself is a beutiful Trix construct, with very odd wheel arrangement. It wasn't a good runner before, but with replacement of the decoder it now is excellent. I know there are new variations available with better decoders, but I think that not many own this combination.

Hello!

The most unique we've got is my brother's Märklin #42352, PwPosti-34a mail car. It's the 1996 mail museum car for Frankfurt Post Museums. Only 10000 made.

I collect 4415 basis beer cars. I have one for Grizzly Beer. It's not in Koll's Special catalog. There was a dealer in the US many years ago who made their own LICs and I think it may have been one of their's. Not necessarily my favarite, but it is the most unique car that I own.

Hi Kevin!,
Do you happen to know the name Dealer who commisioned this car? While I don't collect 4415's myself, I've been coming across many of these US dealer specials lately and I am debating documenting them and sending them over to Kolls. Also a photo would be great if you have one!

John,
I recently moved and everything is packed up including the beer cars and other train stuff. The dealer was Modellbahn Freunde. I think this is one of their's. Somewhere I have some catalogs from them from the late 80s listing their cars. When I get to them I'll keep you in mind. Does Koll's try to keep track of everything or only those truly produced by Marklin? Feel free to email me.

<font face="Comic Sans MS]I'm afraid none of my models qualify as "unique". I collect '60s Märklin models only. One day I came across a small advertisement from a guy selling a "mint" 3001. I didn't yet have that one, and after talking to the guy on the phone I bought it blind. Payed € 60,- for it, up front. When it arrived in the mail, it turned out to be new. Not in good shape or something like that, but quite literally new. It had never been taken out of its box and came with the original silver tag still attached. I consider that to be a unique buy. It's on display now; I only put it on track once to make the picture below.

Oscar: What a piece of luck - congratulations, she's a beauty [:p] !!! (had the very same one in green when I was little - alas, she's long gone ...)

Best Regards,
John
