my first was marklin trains set in 1992,it is 2985 diesel large freight set (3075 with four wagons).
what about you all? |

 My 3029 and two tin coaches which came in the start set with circle of track and transformers. Still pull it out on occasion and let it run a few laps on the layout. My next train after that was the brand new E03 with 5 TEE cars. p. |

My first lok was a red E63 (3001). It is older than I am. I got it from my father when I was 6 or 7, but it is from 1962 (AFAIK). The cars are at least the same age. Hans Martin

My first was the starter set with the 3029 and two freight cars (Niederbordwagen and Kippwagen), an oval with 2 straights, and the 10VA transformer, around 1960. Still got the 3029.

How nice, Hans Martin  . Mine was the very same E63 - only in green (my dad brought the set from Europe in the late 1950s) ... even the cars match (and there was a yellow banana car, too). All long gone, now ... [xx(] John |

My first was a 3054 E103 and some TEE cars I bought in 1979 in Germany...right after I had taken a train trip on an IC/TEE pulled by a 103. I had been a dedicated DC 2railer in the past, but when I went to the store to look at trains with my (then) 10 yr old and 7 year old sons, I fell in love with the Marklin products. I wasn't too sure if I liked the 3rail AC at first, but I have grown to like it. |

I have this yellow banana car, too. It must have been part of a starter set my father bought around 1960. It is difficult to find a 1960's model railroader here in Germany who has no such car.
I wonder whether banana cars are so widely distributed on model railroads in other countries. In the 1950's, bananas (usually coming from Panama and to be payed with US-$) were a symbol for increasing prosperity in Germany and the end of international isolation. So, every family had to get their own banana car for chrismas. A real political issue and a nice marketing trick of M*.

My first loco is a 3003 BR24 with three tinplate thunderbox carriages, oval track and transforma, probably made in 1956 and bought in Malaya by my Dad in early 1957.
The BR24 has recently been upgraded with a delta chip and still runs very well. The thunderboxes are a bit worse for wear, but still run well, the track and the transforma are still functioning although the transforma is no longer required on the layout. |

A BR 89 with 2 boxcars and a bunch of assorted track pieces purchased 2nd hand in 1976. None of which I have anymore unfortunately.

I started end seventies with the starter sets S and E. The following years I got the extension sets T1, T2 And T3. The loco then was a No 3000 (DB 89.xxx) . When I grew older I got a DB 260 (Cat no 3064) and a steamer DB 003 (No 3083?). Studies, Work and other intrests led the hobby into hibernation untill about 10 years ago... |

My first 28 trains I inherited. The oldest in that collection is a 1958 DB89 (3000), followed by a 1959 E41 (3037). The first loc I bought myself was the E70 Bavarian crocodile (3748).

I see my first train was the 30000/10 is 3000. Like a million of others I think.  Also with 3 short green metal passenger cars. Looking at your photo, I think I had the same set like you have Peter. |

When I was 13 or 14 my Dad took me to Nicholas Smith Trains in Philadelphia and bought me my first Marklin trains. Of course it included a 3000 engine which I still have in perfect condition, along with various cars, M track and switches. My dad has a very nice Lionel collection, however, bought me Marklin. My dad passed away a few years ago and the 3000 engine is a nice reminder of him and his enjoyment of model trains. A number of years ago I had a nice layout in my living room. My dad was 82 then, he came over one evening, saw the trains, and started to run them. It was difficult to get him away from the trains to eat dinner. Of course my kids had no chance of operating them while my dad was there.

I got a trainset 3205 in 1961, containing a BR 23 (3005) and three 24 cm cars, namely 4022 second class passenger car, 4026 baggage car and restaurant car 4024. Plus some extra track of course. Christmas present, there is a movie in existence of me playing with it. I was one and a half. All I did was pressing the reverse button on the old transformer (well, it was brand new then)while the train was at full speed. On the movie you can see the train moving forth and back, the loco went broke that very first night. Next time I saw it I was four, loco repaired, some extra stuff, and a proper layout. |
I like M-track and my things that run on it were built between 1959 and 1972. |

My first set was a 3100 set made up of a CM800 (89028) and 3 tinplate 4000 coaches. The set was bought for my brother the year I was born (1958). The loco is the one on the right in the picture.  The coaches have long since been retired, although 2 still exist and occasionally get run for old times sake. My second engine is a 3000 (89005), and is also in the picture. It is about a year younger. |

Hi all, My first set was given to me by Sinterklaas (Dutch tradition on the 5th of december)in the year 1958 if I remember well. The set consisted of a track oval (M-gleis) a transformer a BR 89 (Märklin's CM 800)and three waggons. Regretfully I don't have the box anymore,however the contents are still in good working order. @ Steventrain: emotional value, yes, but Euro value, no I don't think so, to many carpetbahn kilometers on the counter.
@ Guus: thank you, but it wasn't much work, only a drop of oil once in a while, a set of new tractiontires or carbon brushes, a good interior cleanup and still running fine after all these years.
@Crasyhh: I agree with Steventrain, don't sell this first starterset, I think you will regret it later.

My first Märklin was the starter set 29811 bought in october 2004 for me and my son (he prefered trains, rejecting cars a lá Scalectrix).
This 'sport' really got me!
Now I've traded the 29811 to a 29570 since I'm concentrating on US diesel/steam.

My first 2 engines were a green 3001 and a DA 800 from the mid fifties along with some of the 346 series coaches.

I am sure the majority people buying first marklin was 3000 and 3029 in the 1950S-1990s. |
