Hi,
I am presently making plans and collecting tracks for a new layout with K tracks. Since I want to use slim turnouts I bought a bundle of used 2272/2273 very cheaply on a flea market. On this type of turnouts the heart pieces move when the turnout is switched, in contrast to the 22715/22716 turnouts that have the same geometry but fixed heart pieces.
Now my question: did anyone have some negative experience with the 2272/2273 turnouts ? I could imagine that perhaps the delicate mechanics moving the heart pieces might hang more frequently with the years, or that there is derailment with some non-Maerklin vehicles when passing a closed turnout.
So far I didn't have any problems with these turnouts in my temporary carpet layout, but 2272/2273 is no longer offered in the 2005 yearbook. Could be a hint that there were problems.
Best Regards
Hans Martin

We use several of them on our layout and have had no bad experiences. I have heard of problems with this type of switch, and in fact i believe that is why Marklin discontiued it. If you keep it clean (vacuum periodically) and when ballasting make sure none gets in the mechanism, you should be ok. |
