For my Märklin digital layout I use 2271 and 2275 series K-track switches. But I'm wondering if you know of a manufacturer of truly sleek (high speed) switches for 3-rail K-track, along the line of some of the nice Peco switches for 2-rail with very small turnout angles.

Thank you.

Märklin is the only manufacturer of 3-rail track.
But there is a possibility to use PECO turnouts. PECO has a special strip to make the contactpoints in their 2-rail track.

...And a truck load of money.

Their stuff seems also to be available with code 100 track profiles.

I checked out the site you mentioned above... one switch costs nearly 200 Euros, and although they have some very nice things, these people have been smoking dope or something if they think a switch is worth $250 a piece.

$35 is bad enough for one 2271...and that's WITHOUT a motor.

Ah that would be the platium rails, with gold switch contacts that is powered by a small thermo-nuclear power source and controlled through the optional wireless satellite station at a very modest 340,000 Euros.. Should be available 5th quarter 2005 [:(]

Well, on their site there's another offer: they'd even build your layout for you - track alone will be the price tag of two new Cadillacs [xx(][xx(][xx(]

That track is seriously pricey.. I have to wonder why. There must be some reason to justify the price..

btw.. What the heck does "Impressum" mean in German anyway??? I keep seeing it on German sites...

Hello Peter,

Have you tried Marklin # 2272,2273 these have moveable frogs(herzstueck) and are not to expensive plus they fit K-Track.
If you switch to Peco it will not look good ( different color etc ).[:o)][:o)]

The German company who sell those expensive Turnouts are all handmade, wooden ties, spikes etc.[:0][:0]

Our Friend in Italy has a Friend who makes Track for Marklin (remember the wooden Trestle)just ask him how long it takes to build a section[8)]

I do not think that this Company is selling a lot of the Turnouts ( its just like old wine at a $1000.00 a bottle there is a buyer for everything)biggrinbiggrin

"Impressum" is a legal notice of who is responsible for the content of the website and thier contact information. This is a requirement by german law. Unless a disclaimer expressly states otherwise on the web page, under german law a website owner can be held legally responsible for the content of websites that they have links to. The actual translation of Impressum is masthead, as in the kind on a newspaper.

Hello from Florida where 6-months ago today Hurricane Ivan devastated our area!

I DO use 2271 series and 2275 series K track switches with turnout frogs. They are not overly expensive, but when you add switch motors you are looking at 40 Euros each.

The price ratio comparing K-track "sleek" switches seems much greater than the price ratio of old 3600 series metal track - in other words, while everything has gotten more expensive, Marklin switches have gotten disproportionately more expensive. It's a theory - can anyone prove or disprove it?

As for the really sleek switches, I've probably been too harsh on the folks... As they say, if you build it they will come. Or as others say "there is a sucker born every minute."

The middle-point add-ons as from Peco posted by Almagik may be an option for switches --- THANK YOU for posting this.

Peter

Adrian. I like the look of the new platinum rails. Although not yet available I am sure most dealers will be able to quote a price and take orders. They quote the 5th quarter of 2005 but I am sure it will be after that probably the 7th.
Anyway I will send off for the 10 euro platinum rail catalogue and see if I can join the new ' Off the rails' club and order the new four way turnout.
David
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.
