What to think of loks 36850 & 36851?

My 36850 was waiting for me when I arrived home from work today (from planes to trains!!) [:p] I have to agree with all that has been posted here so far regarding the lok. If the 36851 comes with this kind of quality I'll be very happy. It has good weight and metal body. It's my first look at an engine driven by cardan shaft.....very interesting. Does anyone have any complaints/concerns about these items. I wouldn't mind a more sturdy looking pantograph, even if it is only for the sake of appearance. Any suggestions.wink
The prodecure to change the factory set digital address was easy. I only did this because my son (almost 5 now) seemed to think the number for this lok should be 09. No logic, just a nice number!! [:I]

I picked up my 36851 today - the cheapest loco I have ever purchased.. I think that the quality is fine - so what if the handles are not separately applied that way they can't be deleted on the next production run.. wink One of the horns was already broken when I openned the box, so a spot of glue should fix this..

I have to go out tonight so I don't get a change to go through the wonderful address change thing - looking at the instructions it looks like you have to:
- Face north.
- Place underpants on the outside of trousers (if you have no trousers on then put some on first!)
- Spin around three times
- Pick a number from 1 to 80
- Take a deep breath and start panicing..

I have an IB - I am sure I will find some instructions on their website...

BTW Noel the default address is 24...

Yep... We have just come home (it is 1:35 am here) and we won a 4.5 litre bottle of champagne!!!! Huge.. Waaaaaaa hhhhhhoooooo!!

Adrian: I have been trying to reprogram a Marklin Mfx decoder with my IB with no luck, even using the Uhlenbrock instructions. Let me know how you make out and maybe I can figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Hello Ron,

I am fairly sure that this is not a MFX decoder, but I can confirm that the IB instructions don't seem to work.. I get to the part where the loco lights are flashing then I type 01 (to set a new address) and I can hear turnout number 1 click.. Then I press the speed control button and the loco lights blink really fast.. Fizzer...

Anyway I am about to lodge a loco review...

Hello Brian..

Feeling better now, but the Finance Director is still suffering - early to bed for me tonight as I have been up most of the day with Miss 5 (sometimes only with one eye)...

I am very disappointed that I can set the address with the IB, but it does run fine and certainly is a nice runner.. Bit quieter than a high efficency 460 (my 37637), but not as polished as the 460 C-sines. Real value for money this one - I doubt that it has any collector value..

Adrian: I was really off topic with my comment. I was referring to an Mfx kit I instaled in an older loc. I can't even get to the "lights blinking" stage.

I need a bit of this lifestyle.. Parting past 9PM has been nothing more than a dream for me since my 2 anf 4 year old came into our world!

As for the new "value" locs from Marklin.. I really like some of the pair schemes on these, I wonder if it's not possible to bastardize one of them and put it ontop of a C-sine body from a Br152 or 460 purchased used or something?

Era I-V / HO & 1 Gauge / C-Track & Mobil Station, with Central Station.

Got my 36851 last week. I also noted damage to the horns of the lok when I opened the box (1 completely broken in half, 1 damaged to the point of breaking and 1 with slight damage). That said, I'm happy with this lok. I am wondering who is considering more of these in the future now that M* has released the 36850 and 36851?

For me I think I will add at least one for 2005, the BLS 36852. Has anyone changed their mind about buying more of these Hobby loks?

Looks like your 36851 has had transport damage. Ask your dealer for a new one.
M-track with a CS2.

I like my 36850, very good value for money, yes 1 horn is already broken, but hey, ..it happens. Also once you have tried it, reprogramming parameters in these locos (with a 6021 or MS that is) is quite easy (with the correct brand underpants - and cape).
