They are very unusual and if they were black like they were in ht epainted models, all of their detail would be missed. Although they would look strange on a layout, I guess they could be painted if ever they were to be used. They apparently come with a clear coat on them.

You can find most of them by Walthers or Pacific Western Rail, for instance. But they are a lot of dealers who sell American freight cars. Best quality are from Intermountain, Proto 2000 and some Atlas, Athearn and Walthers series. Check on my website for further details about conversions. Of course, you will have to change couplers with Kadee # 17 on all you Märklin cars and locomotives (# 19 on rear PA1 coupler). Pierre.
