I currently have a layout with a curve consisting of two Marklin 5120 tracks

I want to add a straight switch and restore the curve.

I think I need to remove one 5120 and add one 5119R and one 5101 (1/2 curve). In short is this correct ?

Thank You

Jim

You will come out parallel to where you were, but not in the same spot since 5120 is R0 (300mm radius, 45°) while the curved part of 5117/8/9 is the same as 5100 (R1, 360mm 30°) and 5101 is 1/2 of 5100 (360mm 15°).

No, it is not correct.

The 5120 is a 45 degree curve with 286 mm radius.
The 5119 has a 30 degree curve with 360 mm radius.

So, your idea will give you a wider curve than the original.

There is no way to put a turnout into a curve made up of 5120's and keep the curve unchanged.

Nup.. The 5120 has a 286mm radius, while the 5119 (5117R) is a 360mm radius.. I have created a diagram from Raily 4.0 to show the difference. The orange piece is the original 5120.

Hi Jim. welcome to the forum and to the wonderful world of M track planning.
Sadly i have to agree with previous post, not possible.
Also you might want to change youe curve, 5120 is not very good for other than station tracks, you may have serious troubles with long cars to manage that radius....
UserPostedImage German trains era I-II and selected III, era depends on the mood, mostly Maerklin but i can be heretic if needed XD, heresy is no longer an issue.. LOL
