Hi all,

I am starting to buy some HAG locos although my main interest will always be Marklin. I am wondering if there are any forums like this one for HAG users. An internet search has not turned up anything.

Thank you,

Jack

Jack, the most reliable source of HAG information is Stefan Unholz's HAG pages, which have a HAG database and News about HAG and more...

But since many Märklin-users are also HAG owners, this forum, the MML or the B&G would be the natural place to at least get some info... Otherwise, maybe some Swiss dealer or model railroad club may have a forum where HAG is the main issue..

There is as specific HAG forum at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HAG . Stefan Unholz is one of the active members there... You will also get rapid replies submitting to shop@hag.ch .

Thanos: I am unable to load that page, are you sure it is correct? If so, I am not sure what is going on.--MM

Charlie, HAG locos are rather expensive - are they so much better than M confused

Uh-oh, that would be a discussion in itself!

I do think they are considered a (small?) step above Marklin. They only make high end products, and as far as I know they are still hand-made in Switzerland (there are a few passenger cars that were made by/with Fleischmann).

So the quality is very good, and of course they offer a very good selection in Swiss models. Their products are priced in Swiss Francs, and though they may end up pricey for the rest of the world, the Swiss seem to be able to afford them.

If you are not a HAG collector, you would most likely end up buying HAG because they offer a model that M* does not... Here in the USA there does not appear to be a strong HAG following.

Hi John,

Since I started this thread, I might shed some light on the subject. I have over 200 Marklin locos (not braging, just giving you a refernce point) and I have just purchased my first HAG.

Here are my observations. I have an Ae 8/8 with twin motors and factory installed decoder. It is a beautifuly made loco, all metal with fantastic detailing. Having said that, it is also expensive and has an awful time running on C track switches. I think this is due to the wheels that are designed for DC.

Am I happy with my purchase. Not really. All of my other locos that are Marklin run equally as well, if not better, particularly the C sine ones. It is well made and fantastic looking, but I don't think that justifies the big difference in price. Will I buy more HAG? Only if I see something I really must have and only then if I can see it run on some C track switches.

Jack
