Hi guys,

I just got for my birthday the 6051 Interface. But - it only comes with a silly DOS diskette!! (DOS...uuugh!). My question is: which software can I use with it, and are there any demos/shareware software I could at least try out first before investing serious money?

Many thanks
Monique

A little late... but "Happy Birthday Monique"!!!
Anyway, Railroad & Co is a very nice program! But I am sure that more recommendations will come from other users.

WinDigipet is also a very competent program. Many people are choosing between WinDigipet and Railroad & Co. I am sure there are also other good options.

I tried both WinDigiPet and RR & co, but I found them both MUCH harder to use than the demo 60512 from Marklin.. It might be a good time to point out that you need lots of contact track, s88s and k83s to make good use of a computer controlled layout.. Otherwise, the 6051 and a PC amount to a very expensive loco selector and speed knob..

My layout is pretty simpel and I do have some strategically-placed contact track I could hook up to s88, what I expect of software is to automate the running of trains, I want to have the layout running 3-4 trains simultaniously to diferent destinations, stopping before each other, etc. Those who recommended WinDigipet or Railraoda&Co, are these difficult to 'program'?? I'm looking for a relatively sinmple and windows friendly software, not something I need to read thick manuals to egt to work. Any ideas?

This will not be accomplished by any software program on it's own. You need a lot of contact tracks (don't forget that C-track can be modified into a contact track so there's not so much expense there), S88s and k83s, etc. The stupid machine with software on it needs feedback to get things going ... and stopping apparently. It depends on what you mean by simple. Running 3-4 trains simultaneously is not that simple I think. It depends on your layout, on the length of the trains, the number of contact tracks, the number of routes, the signals you use etc. You will have to invest a little in getting used with the software.

One cannot consider them as being simple to use, but with patience you can handle both of them. WinDigipet makers have a serie of Workshops in pdf format which are helpful (especially Workshop 11). You must also understand the various modes you can control your trains using these programs (timetable operations, etc). Concerning the user interface I personally like more that of Railroad & Co.

As a software developer (my profession) I can tell you that software designers always face the dilemma between ease of use and feature-richness when writing software Cool.

Regards

i had the impression that advertising was not permitted here juhan.
please inform the other members who are so happy about the olympics
that by advertising olympic games you are actually advertising the sponsors

silence means guilt

I'm sure Thanos is not advertising as such, merely expressing his delight at living in the country that will be hosting the event. Look at it as a big smiley SmileSmileSmile Right, Thanos?
