Gents - there are a number of 34xxx series locos for sale on the web. I assume these are not digital but one or two appeal greatly - and the price seems right. Can I put a decoder in them. Do I need an engineering degree?

In short, Delta locos can be run as well, but the speed control is no good. And the light comes with the speed. But if you like the looks, buy! Expect the motor to be an all current motor; for conversion to a good decoder with speed control, it's prefered to replace the field coil with a permanent magnet. You can also read about conversion sessions in this site.

Newer Deltas (66031) with 4 switches have constant directional light and an additional function forseen for Telex. The one with 8 switches can be converted into a 6080 with one aux F1 function, by changing some solder bridges. |
