Hi everyone,

I'm have a problem with some of my C track uncouplers. I am using them with a digital and a k83. Some of them stick in the up position. I am not sure if it is dirt (I have tried cleaning them with lighter fluid) or some electronic that is holding them up. I don't want to oil for obvious reasons. When used manually, they don't hang up. Has anyone else had this problem?

Jack

Long shot here, but would it be because the coil magnetizes itself a little when being used, and the residual magnetic field is strong enough to keep the uncoupler in place?

A small sleeve inside a magnetic coil, made out of thin plastic, could be a way to make movement easier. It is used in pinball machine coils as well.

Yes, that's my thinking too. The rectified output of the k83s make them stick. Not a big problem except the ugly sight of it. I have the same experience and no simple solution.

You could connect the K83 output to switch a relay, and power the coil with 16 VAC.

Hi,

Well it looks like I stumbled on the problem. I slipped the wire out of the hole in the roadbed so that I could make a hole in the layout under the uncoupler so the wire would not show. Evidently, if the wire is too close to the coil, the uncoupler stays in the up position. The wire must get magnitized (my guess) and keeps the uncoupler up. I moved the wire slightly away from the coil and the problem went away.
