Looking for inexpensive HO AC locos and cars that will work with Marklin. Does anyone have experience running Mehano AC locos and Mehano US prototype freight and passenger cars on a Marklin system? I have a combination of M and C track. Some existing locos are analog, others are Delta. If Mehano is not recommended are there other suggestions?

Hi andrews, welcome to the forum...
The Blue Tiger diesel from Mehano with sound is supposed to be quite good, but that's not of US prototype of course... I have no personal experience with Mehano, even if I have glanced at their "Thalys" set for my son for quite a while...
Other manufacturers that offer AC/Märklin digital locos are e.g. Roco and Fleischmann, but they are not as cheap as Mehano... |

I just removed my Brawa GP-30 from the box last night. Cool model. (maybe i will write a review.) Runs good, has lots of fine details. Has no problems with my C-track. If you want low cost loks, try the new Piko loks at www.reynaulds.com. They have some digital loks for a very good price; the only lower prices I have seen were on eBay. There are a LOT of AC makers in Europe, some not as high-end as Marklin, but "good enough" for fun operations. |

Hi!
I also got interested in Mehano due to recent discussions and also would like to hear from owners.
Re Piko Hobby locos: I had the opportunity to (briefly) look at two "Taurus" e-locos at a recent train show here. They were DC locos, though, but came with (non-regulated) decoder. They felt heavy and well detailed for a low price of just over USD 70. I noticed that the front truck (plastic) had a receptacle and screw hole to mount a pick-up shoe. Was almost tempted to buy one, but the instructions did not mention anything about retrofitting to AC. So I didn't.
The only non-Marklin loco we have is a Brawa V100 (Cow spot, ~Eur 170). Runs really well, very quiet and smooth (fly wheels will do that). Recommended.

Thank you for your responses. I have ordered a Mehano SD40 locomotive and 3 of the ore hopper cars to test on my layout. Perhaps in 2 to 3 weeks I can report on the results.

The Mehano G2000 with sound is a superb model. Well detailed, quiet and smooth running and excellent sound.
I have three of them now plus the new ones on order. I only hope they bring out a model of the full cab version that SBB-Cargo have just ordered!!!
