This looks too good to be true. Has anybody got one or dealt with this firm in the past.

Hi: It does look nice, but when it says 3-rail AC and compatible with Maerklin, does it, in fact, have a pick-up shoe? The pictures don't really allow you to see it. Also, this price seems a problem as a Lok Sound decoder costs in the same ballpark. So this is buy the decoder, and get the dampflok for free!!

You don't see pick-up shoes in Roco catalogues either - they always show the DC model instead of the AC model.
So this doesn't proof that the offer is faked.

There are several versions for DC, DCC and 3 Rail. Stock #14-717 and 14-718 are 3 rail with slide shoe.

I have one and it is marvellous.
All you have to do is change the address, turn the sound down and you are running.

I got the christmas special. THis is a better price now.

They are good to deal with. 2 days after ordering It was on its way from Florida (from Precision Creaft Models) and 5 days later in my hot little hands.

If you have a query they even answer emails within a few hours.

From the Exploded Drawing it may be a bit difficult to remove the body.
It comes with some add on bits.

So, Nevw, what would you rate this compared with a similar Maerklin product? The sound is high quality?

AS it is LokSound Sound it is very good. Squeeling Brakes V Good. Chuff Chuff very Good In fact the lot of it VG.
AS to quality I think it is also VG and alongside Marklin. Not all Metal but still the plastic is good.
Just went and did a Test run, Sound was terrific, an alternator noise, good chuf, good whistle. there are some more sounds but I have not allocated a Function button to them yest.

must admit, would love to have a steamer with sound on my layout for a price that low even though it is not made by M! Have alwalys been impressed with BLI/ Precision Craft both in appearance and running ability. Have a DCC GG1 from BLI which has been fine. Using this engine with a CS should not be a problem? Run mine with the CS. ONly need to put the loco on the programming track and use the CS to set the CVs.
On the CS I selected a Marklin 01 and then changed address and icons to suit.
My Avatar is the 01.

I sent an email to Factory Direct Trains to ask them if they plan on selling other Maerklin 3 rail AC with Motorola and Loksound. It is a very impressive company and I hope to order the BR01 since both my BR05 Insider and BR50 are still being repaired by Marklin with both having lost sound.

Are there more functions? The decoder should be able to use F5 through F8 with a secondary address, but I don't know if the manufacturer makes use of these functions.

I ordered 'em, too, but haven't received anything beyond the order confirmation yet.

Nev,
Dead right about their service.
Ordered them on the night of the 26th and arrived on the morning of the 31st! [:p]

But, I have only had time to place one of them on the track, loaded up the number and set it off.
I only had about 30 seconds worh of play as I am shelving the garage so I didn't want any contamination being picked up by the loco.

Initial impressions: these are very, very nice units.
I didn't try the functions as I forgot the function numbers (they don't automatically register on the MS of course).

I will do a comparrison between them and a 39010 c/w photos as soon as I can clean up the garage and get the layout up and running again.

The photos on their website clearly show the pickup shoe. In fact, they have a photo that shows the entire underside of the lok. At this price, I am seriously considering getting one!

Both are BR 01.

<Hairsplitting>Neither is BR 01.</Hairsplitting>

I've heard that you can use 37540 to access up to 9 functions with this model (you have to set a bit to enable the second MM address of the decoder). {Rumour: don't blame me if it doesn't work with 37540}
Second address does work, but cannot be set separately.
Don't expect all symbols to match!
Found this tip on Stummi's forum

So far I tested mine only with the IB (9 functions with 1 address).
Eventually I'll test it with the MS.

Front lights can be dimmed (CVs 113 and 114), but center light is still brighter than the others.

Reduced volume to 50% and it's still loud enough.

Edit: changed loco number (old: 37450, new 37540).

You are not going to believe what I have done.

Rule: NEVER place orders for trains while working night shifts, feeling tired and in between Events!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Instead of ordering what I thought was 1 x 14-717 and 1 x 14-718
I am the proud owner of 2 x 717 versions.

DOH [:(] [:(]

On a less Serious matter I sent an email to the PCM asking if More AC Versions planned. GOt the following reply. I also asked them to infom me so we can put it up on the Forum:

We don't have plans for our next AC model yet, but we may do some more.
We'll announce anything we're coming out with on our website. I'm glad to
hear you're happy with your models!
Sincerely,

Matthew Williamson

If they must sell a model for something of the cost price. I don't think they will make another one.

Want selling a expensive loc so cheap is not good.

Macca,
Maybe a email and they may accept a return and replacement. But then Adrian will probably offer half price. AND ruin the gun

Nev,
Not entertaining sending it back.
I would rather on-sell.
Adrian has been quoted the standard (upmarket) price so I can buy more diamonds.
