I need to buy a transformer, but I want a bit more power than the old 6001. On the M* web site, there is a 60052 (the new 60VA transformer) for 220V. I cannot find a 110V equivalent anywhere!

Anyone got any ideas? Just go and buy any 16V AC transformer I can get my hands on? For example, Eurorailhobbies.com have a Wall Plug Transformer 110V - 120V Output 16.5 VAC/40VA designed for Roco Sets i.e 10761.

OR run a 2nd line from the dryer outlet?[B)]

Thanks!

Richard

Bill Ott (Modellbahnott.com) has a 130va transformer for sale for 159.95.

I built my own (560VA with 10 4-amp breakered outlets) I posted a picture somewhere else on this site.

Found it. I used a 35amp (peak load 70amp) 16v filament transformer and broke the output into 10 4 amp circuits. I don't recall where on the net I found the transformer, though.

Huub Maskant has a description on his homepage on how to make a bigger power supply:

http://www.floodland.nl/trein/info/elektro_en_0.htm

He divides the output into 6 lines, each protected by a fuse. There is a limit to how much power you can use in a circuit - in case of a shortcut the wheels could get welded to the track (or worse if you have your fingers nearby...).

Of course every circuit need its own booster, if you run digitally!

I have a Titan trafo. Don't remember where I got it from, could have been from RJFtrains.com or Curthel.com

Hi all, and thanks for your replies. I have now located a 18V 65VA transformer, so my question is: will the extra 2V fry my 6021 (short term or long term), or will it be OK?

hi richard,

If you use a ringtransformer converting 230v~ to 18v~ nothing will get fried. The 18 volts are outputvoltage, noncharged. If you measure the output of your 6002 transformer you will also find 18V~ or even a little more. Once you put some load on it, the usable voltage will quickly drop to 16V~. So Huub Maaskant's project is perfectly safe. I'm considering building one myself. The cost would be around 130,00€ for all parts used. Looks like a good deal since one 6002 rates over 60€. Maaskants powersupply offers you 6x 50VA trafo's for less than half of the total price you would pay for 6 mä6002!

Sorry richard,

After further research it seems that the 18 volt is the output under load. the Uncharge output is 19,25 V . I dont know if the two volt extra will make a lot of difference. According to huib maaskant you can use a 17 volt transformer without problem.

sorry again for the misinformation
