Hi all,

Finally, the pictures of the MHI items are available, and so is the Summer News.
Probably interesting and maybe even surprising for our Danish members... wink

Check: http://www.marklin.nl/pr...rs/MarklinSommer2008.pdf

(I've posted a new topic as I have the feeling that the most interesting news is not anymore MHI but Summer Items, personally I still looove those MHI items though... wink )

Agree, I expected it to be like the 42754, which it in fact is. Only, this one is a little bit nicer due to the fact that it comes with two brown/beige coaches instead of just one. (So, now I'm wondering, what should I do with the 42754 I already have...?)

What is the construction of the 42755/42760 coaches ??

New tooling would be very expensive, so are they perhaps metal coaches ??

They look similar to Kaiser Wilhelm set of coaches

Nope, not a new tooling indeed. They're nearly exactly similar to the earlier released 42754 and have the same tooling as the 42757 as well. Originally, the tooling is stemming from Trix, I guess. You can correct me if I'm wrong on this one. However, I'm pretty sure it is not metal and does not have much to do with the Wilhelm Zug either.

There are some differences with the 42754 though, when it comes to the composition of the set and running numbers, also the couplers are different. (The 42754 was equipped with those fixed current conducting couplers.) Now the only thing that is still unsure is; will this one be equipped with LED's instead of the regular bulbs used in its predecessors?

So, now I'm wondering, what should I do with the 42754 I already have...?

Maybe the same as I plan to do: together with the new BR18 get both new sets #42755 and #42760, and have two trains with each six coaches - needless to say that the other one still has to be pulled by a Württ. C. [:p]

UserPostedImage

(one set #42760 would still do it for the "cheap" solution biggrin).

The IMHO undoubted most nice coach from the sets #42754/42755 is the dining car.

UserPostedImage

For those interested in the Orient Express, the following are two very good readings (in German); one published by the ALBA Verlag, the other one by the DB Museum. Maybe there even exist translations into other languages too, but for sure alike publications, since this was probably the most famous train in Europe. wink

PS: Some of the old coaches are still "alive" today; here a detailed picture of the impressive CIWL logo one of them - which has been remodeled quite nicely by TRIX/Märklin.

I believe you will have lighted tables.

How about that little cute Bavarian D XI Locomotive from Trix ! I really like it !!!!!

Maybe we can see this in Marklin soon.

The coaches look like the same styling of the Kaiser Wilhelm set. That set has metal bodied coaches (I have two full sets) and is my all time favorite passenger set.

About the light of the 42755/42760 Orient Express wagons.

According to the description the wagons will come with factory installed lighting. Nothing is mentioned about working table lamps which means they are not working (as Märklin would surely mention it if they were working). Also, nothing is mentioned about tail/marker lights on the last wagon, meaning that it does not have tail lights. All wagons are connected with current conducting couplers. The last wagon has a slider.

Nothing is mentioned about the built-in light being LED. This means that it is the old bulb lights as Märklin always mentions it in the description when LEDs are used.

For me, the bulb lighting is a show stopper, unfortunately. I do not want seven wagons with old-style bulb lighting. It is 2008 and I want long lasting and power saving LED lighting everywhere. In locomotives it is quite easy and cheap to replace the bulbs with LEDs but not so in wagons.

So, for me the ordered new 39020/41928 Rheingold models will have to be enough classic era I/II passenger train sets for one year, although a model of this famous train would be very nice addition on the layout. Well, maybe when the next version comes out in about five years time they will get the last details correct for me to jump in. Smile

Was that so under era 1 time about 1918-1925...?

I thought it was black colour or even in green colour...

Marklin does not use bulb lighting - mostly LEDs, so no concerns there.

Many locomotive colors up until Provincial Railroads were nationalized into DRG.

MHI 2 Issues will be harder to find than the 2008 new items will be.

better to get the Orient express set, it will be sold out rather quickly.

@ Goofy: for sure it was sometimes like that! Blue was, especially in Baden where this loco comes from, a colour that was used more often for locomotives.

What? Apart from a few special sets Märklin has only begun delivering LED light for coaches in 2006 with the 73400 lighting set. All previous coach lighting sets have been bulb based. Many 2008 locomotives derived from older molds still comes with bulb lighting, e.g. the Nohabs. Unless it is specified in the item Märklin description text my experience is that light is not LED based. For the case of the 42755 and 42760 nothing is mentioned about LEDs in the description, thus my bet is that these coaches comes with traditionel bulb lights.

Installing LED lights instead of the factory supplied bulbs should not be any bigger problem than for a loco; probably even easier (like with the new Märklin LED stripes #73400).

Installing illuminated table lamps could probably be done similar to the VT11.5 (and now as well the "Senator").

PS: The slider is mounted at one of the baggage coaches; mounting it to one of the other coaches was discussed here not long ago.wink

These sets are all based upon a (very fine) TRIX design quite some years ago. Hopefully they will also offer at some time those wonderful coaches in blue livery (again).

That's my understanding too. For the price Märklin is charging, I think they should re-kit their "old" new releases with LED.

I'm interested in the DSB passenger wagons. I think I've asked about this before...

So DSB experts, what are the actual class codes of 42761 and 42814?
My knowledge of DSB passeneger wagons is somnewhat limited, but "litra A" and "litra B" seems just a bit vague...

Cheers,

I would not call this a sound solution when considering the economy. To replace the lights with LEDs using 73400 or 73401 sets would cost between €17 and €20 per coach (list prices), i.e. €120 to €140 for the entire train (7 coaches). And all this only to replace the factory installed lighting that you already paid for. It would be much better if Märklin just got rid of the power hungry and service requiring bulbs altogether, don't you agree?

Why don't you just ask them to change it - or at least find out why they will deliver it as planned. wink

My thoughts were/are more realistic and thus I think what I can or want to do myself to change it if I dislike coaches with bulbs.

<br />I'm interested in the DSB passenger wagons. I think I've asked about this before...

So DSB experts, what are the actual class codes of 42761 and 42814?
My knowledge of DSB passeneger wagons is somnewhat limited, but "litra A" and "litra B" seems just a bit vague...

The names is simply A,B,Ca and Car. Take a look at these links - it is in danish, let me know if you want me to translate some of it.
http://www.jernbanen.dk/...&litra=A&typenr=
http://www.jernbanen.dk/...amp;litra=B&typenr=1
http://www.jernbanen.dk/...amp;litra=CA&typenr=
http://www.jernbanen.dk/...mp;litra=CAR&typenr=

I checked that site, but I'm rather puzzled...[:I]
My Danish is pretty much non-existent, but Jernbanen implies that - say - Car #1049 was built in 1932, and in service until about 1972 (with various re-numbering) Is this correct?

So why do Märklin claim set #42761 "The cars look as they did around 1974"?
I suspect I'm missing somethig here...[:I]

There's a reason for this -- MrsK (the FD) rather likes the older Ca and Car set (#42761, with the fancy logo). We have a Hobbytrade MZ IV. Is it at all possible that an MZ IV ever pulled these type of wagons?
Cheers,
Damon

Hi Damon/all
I also don't understand that Märklin says 1974. (I belive jernbanen.dk more that Märklin :-)

To me it seems that the CA1029 was in service from 1941-1960/62. Before it was the CR1029 and after 1962 it was the CA1246 as a passager-car until 1963. Last it was a post-car (the BDh264) until 1983.

The CAR1049 was in service from 1953 to 1961. Before it was the CA1019 and after it was the CAR1289. Last it was the BRh289 until 1972. So yes your was right ;-)

About: Hobbytrade MZ IV pulling the #42761: I would say no, because the MZ IV is from 1977 - see:
http://www.jernbanen.dk/...mp;litra=MZ&typenr=4

I will check these infomations with my friend at work - he knows a lot more that me.

I don't understand this: "MrsK (the FD)" What does that mean?

I have the T-model (37037). The #42761 will look nice after this model. I have 5 CA (4341) - so I look forward to get the CAR to attach. The brown MY have also pulled the cars, I think.

But I think that it is unfair that Märklin sells the CA again. In 1994 it was a one-time-model. I don't think that it is a new model just because they change the car-number. What do you all think, is it all right - do you see it as a new car just because it has a new number?

That's what I thought, too...

This may require some "creative anachronism"...

Sorry, forum-speak...
MrsK is of course Mrs Kelly, the "FD" (Financial Director) who controls the purse strings.
See here
If she is interested in a Märklin/MRR item, the credit card may run free!!!!, otherwise, I have to convince her why we need the particular item...wink

Mrs K likes the earlier wagons, with "the pretty logos", so I need to justify them...I think a 37037 may now be acceptible...biggrin

Can I quote you to Mrs K?

They've done it before, and one must assume they'll do it again.
I'm not a "collector", so I would prefer that Märklin didn't do "One Time Series" -- if they make the tooling, then just keep making the locos or wagons...[}:)]

Damon
