That's in MAy, but mine did come after the renewal deadline, which was February 18. I did pay it by bank transfer, anyway.

Hi guys

This is the response we had from the Insider Club:

we have sent out all m ailings including the australian one the 11th of February. Therefore, it should arrive very soon. I will check with the mailing house if there were some problems. As far as I know everything is fine. I will come back to you on that if something has happened.

Shall we wait longer, again

Cheers

Yes, it's possible because of the subversive material contained about railroading as a hobby.
It seems M need to tweak its mailing service. Atleast in the past I could call Wisconsin and talk to a person who would respond in some fashion to my request. M hasn't even acknowledged my email with credit card payment for renewal..

My magazine showed up on the 25the of February - but the renewal notification for the Insider club (which is due on the 15th of Feb) - and was sent from Stuttgart on the 4th of January - didn't show up until the 4th of March.

The possible explanation: the renewal slips to North America, went by sea and not by airmail. As well the large volume of materials in the first insider mailing going to the US resulted in most US addresses being shipped by Sea at once.

Since there are very very few Canadian insders - airmail was likely more effecient

Via sea?? even the slowest freight carriers from Europe only take eighteen days to make the crossing. M must be using a fulfilment house which has shipments on a low priority. Even so, I renewed via email and have not had an acknowledgement from M.

Finally got my Insider packet today but no renewal form... My impression is that the Magazin is even lighter than the original "International" version, The Insider news never really did anything for me and this is not an improvement. Still waiting for the German version of the Magazin before I reserve final judgement.

Finally got my catalogs, too. I liked the hard cover, but the paper was thinner. It's a catalog.

Cheers, p.

Got the magazine pack (MM#1 plus Insider, coupons I will never use etc.) two days ago. So, March 9th to get to New York City...
Whatever. I am mystified that M* seems to be wilfully ignorant of the fact that these delays mightily p** off their overseas customers.
So the Insider model will be a Henschel Wegmann train set at a proposed $865 US. Looks like a nice paint scheme but the loco will appeal to only a few, I think. The price is pretty steep IMHO.
Different format for the magazine. Check out the back cover-there is a cutout to "test the new Marklin magazine", 3 issues plus a 1:87 truck for 10 Euros, then an offer to extend subscription for a yearly Eur 28.80. Might be the way to go in future. They will probably say not good in the US.

Further reflection-I think that M* really does not understand that these delays are a problem (on the other hand the suspicious side of my nature tells me that M* is phasing out Insider club and going to magazine subscription only).
It seems so contrary to what I have experienced in Germany and Austria. Case in point-the last time I visited there was a few years ago. Took Austrian Air from JFK to Vienna. Plane was 1 1/2 hrs late taking off due to ATC holds. Pilot was VERY bothered and apologetic, then burned a lot of fuel and arrived Vienna precisely on time, announcing this with obvious pride.
Same trip-local train from Garmisch to Munich was 15 min late. The world had obviously ended according to pax. Conductor comes around apologizing to each pax individually.
I could go on...
Why is M* so different?

There are still many Germans who haven't gotten theirs yet either. The delays I can live with and the dealers I use, http://www.westendtrains.com and www.reynaulds.comare aware of them and orders still go through. It's sloppy business though and combined with a bunch of other things has turned me off of the club. Like you almost never buy any of the club cars/engines and the ones I have gotten have been far cheaper on ebay (my BR10 - Delta Version - for $150). I think the Magazine (International version) has lost much of it's content and usefulness. The version we got last year was better, also in terms of layout. I'm still waiting for the German version which I continue to subscribe to before I decide on whether to continue that. With the savings I could easily subscribe to something like Eisenbahn Journal, in addition to the MIBA I already receive. It's too bad for the non-German speakers though.

Check around. Westendtrains in Toronto http://www.westendtrains.com is offering it for $697.09US. Kuhn Eurobahntrains http://www.eurobahntrains.comhas it for $771.30. Reynaulds hasn't posted their prices online yet. You could also order from Germany. ETS http://www.modelleisenbahn.com has it listed for €589.00. With conversion and shipping it might still be cheaper. You'd just need to provide whatever dealer with the certificate.

I received my Insider for 1/05 on Friday. Very good and I really liked the detailed information about the Prototype Henschel Wegman.

I really like the information on the prototype ! We should see some good info on the GG1 next issue.

That's okay - just send the Insider cheque to West Germany - if they spent any time on this forum they would know:
1. The group has created Scotland as a country in its own right (you guys need to get your own King or Queen now - we can't do everything for you. My great great great grandfather would be loving this!)

2. How to fix all of their problems.

3. That their marketing machine is about 2 years ahead of the manufacturing such that by the time the thing has actually arrived we are getting excited by the next thing that marketing has hyped us about to buy the product.. (or we found something better and cheaper made by a competitor)

4. That a gobal company means more countries than Germany, France, Austria and USA..

5. That shipping does not include canoes!!!

6. That 4 weeks is one month - not three..

7. Sending an Insider renewal letter with a "must pay" date of the previous month is really annoying and will not do much to generate sales..

Oh I could go on for hours.. [:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!][:(!]

The Scots need to go talk to James VI, he's the one who decided to become James I of England. They should have made him stay in Scotland, then it would the English complaining about having the Scots in charge.biggrin
Actually both of them should be complaining about a German sitting on the throne since despite the name Windsor Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II is descended from a German noble house.wink

Dear David,

I for my part would never ever confuse England and Scotland. In fact, I go so far as when encountering one of your fellow countrymen on the Munich Oktoberfest or on similar occasions, I always enquire as to which religion she or he belongs, or whether she or he regularely visits the football ground in the eastend of Glasgow or whether it is slightly more to the south-west ....

Therefore, a happy and peaceful procedure of the evening is guaranteed. Smile Never mess with a disgruntled Scot !!!!biggrin

Have a nice week,

Johann

Adrian:

funny, I just "went on for hours and hours" a couple of minutes ago, as you posted up there, in a different thread about mistakes in Marklin yearbook 2005. I actually could have copied your post, would have told the same, but quicker ....!!!

Regards,

Johann

I showed my wife the Insider flyer today with the new Zug. She said "Four coaches. Doesn't that look like the Airport Express I got you?" I said yes.
(Lufthansa Express, many moons agobiggrin)
I then said it is $800.
She gave me The Look.
Quick response: "[:I]I am not getting one. Really!"

2005 was my first year as an insider. It will be the last. No useful information in the MM, a yearlok I will not buy, etc.
On the other hand, the 'insider' items from Roco look more interesting.wink

Got no idea about those royals. But King David I. of Scotland [:p] sounds great. We'll keep the Apple's roads cleared for your motorcade, David

King David I b.1084-d.1153 crowned 1124
King David II b.1324-d.1371 crowned 1329

Now if only I'd stop doing history and read my Märklin magazine, I would be able contribute something meaningful to this thread.
