As the webmaster of this place, I often get requests for more information and expected values of models and collections...

Since I am not an expert in this area, I now turn to you - esteemed members of this forum, for an approximate value estimation of a collection in the US. So please help me out here with an approximate USD value for the collection at this link.

http://www.marbut.com/marklin

If any of our collectors is interested in the collection itself, I can put you in contact with the guy who asked me.

It would help to know if there are boxes. Don't know the value, but I would guess that Bill might have a clue. Looks like engine 7 may have a bit o' the old zincpest and car 15 a bit of tinpest, but most are in excellent shape.

I don't think there are boxes, it's a father-son thing where the old stuff is inherited.

Value should be approximately estimated/guessed on what you see & read on that page.

Any help appreciated, since the guy has got an offer and he wishes to know if it is reasonable.

It is Marklin items date between 1935 and 1950s. You may note most locos have replacement new pick up shoe.

Hello everyone,

A very nice collection. I was able to add up the prices based on past ebay auctions and what I estimate the trains to be worth. This price does not include any damage that the cars or locomotives have since I cannot inspect them thoroughly.

**This is also for only the Marklin trains...some I believe are of another brand. Also excluding track.

Locomotives (plus three separate tenders)- $3,420
Cars- $965 (when sold individually)

I don't know if there are two HR 800's or just one? But they are worth around $500 with original tender. It was hard to tell if there were duplicate pictures or multiple pictures of one train, so I counted each picture as a new train. As written "Engine 1,2,3,4..."

Please be sure to note that this is very rough...I simply counted number of cars and locomotives and multiplied at what they each cost.

For example the average 342 with diecast trucks costs around $45-$48. There were 4 of these I saw in the pictures. So around $188 for the 342's.

Thanks,
Bill

Very nice collection. Without seeing it and examining for tin rot. It looks in fine shape.I think Bill's estimate may be a bit low, if it is in as good condition as the photos seem to show.Their is plenty of solid third rail track still available to collectors so I wouldn't value the track to high. I still have boxes of it stored away.

Hello everyone,

I just want to remind you all again that my estimation is simply an approximate price. We all know it is nearly impossible to appraise something without actually seeing it. You also have to realize there is rust on cars, wheels are broken, and some have wrong trucks (bogies).

As for the locomotives...the price is fairly close, however if they all had zinc-pest the price could considerably drop.

I think with the information provided, the owner will be able to make a knowledgeable decision about his collection.

Thanks,
Bill
