According to Helmut Kern's site, both Marklin and Primex 3002s are E 63 08. All the E 63 02 are 3001.

This information is certainly not true. This must be a typing mistake by Mr. Kern.

I think you're probably right, Hans. I think the E 6308 is the Primex version (maybe?), which I believe is green in colour.

I've looked at the ebay item:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws...sidZm37QQfromZR40QQfviZ1

If this is the one we're talking about, I can't be sure it's a brown colour. It looks more like the dark red to me.

As far as I know, without the benefit of a Kohls book:

The 3001 were the CE800, originally green, and then later red.
The 3002 were originally the CEB800, and were brown in colour.
Primex made a version numbered 3002, and this was green, with no handrails.
Later, Marklin made a Hobby version, in red, with no handrails. This was a class 163, instead of E63.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Dear Ray,

coming back to Mr. Kern I believe that it is just normal with the amount of data that has been fed into his homepage that every now and then little errors would occur.

And I also believe that your statement concerning the different versions of the 3001 / 3002 is correct. But I also have to add that it is not always very easy to distinguish the red from the brown version. At least not for me. I mean there is a newer version that is really really red, like a Marlboro, but the older red ones are pretty close to what Märklin sold as brown ones years earlier.

A bit confusing I suppose ....

Many regards,

Hans

Panagiotis it says on ebay that your 3002 loco has 2 switchover levers.
I assume that one of those is for catenary operation, have you tried to switch any of them to see what happens?

I guess I am late to the party. I picked up a couple of the Ma 3002 or CE 800 loks awhile back. One is green and the other is brown? Each is marked as CE800, E6302. I am confused about the difference between the CE800, and the 3002. I checked the Kolls (2001 edition) , and not reading german am completely lost. (Nothing new)

Neither runs, but after reading the previous posts, I probably didn't flick the correct lever. I will try again.

What I would like to know is a source for the part numbers of the pantograph (looks to be the double),the pickup shoe, and the rubber tyres.

Originally I was going to update these to a digital version, but I somehow got hooked to the ozone smell. biggrin So I want to run these strickly as analogue. My rationale, not much, is I can always buy the better and best digital versions later in the year or next!!

Am I correct?

CEB 800 = 3002?

CE 800 = 3001?

This is whats in my Koll's:

CE 800 E 6302 = 3001 (V1)
3000 E 6302 = 3001 (V2)
E6302 = 3002 (V3)

Thanks,
Bill

Thanks Bill. I was going by the picture in the 1956 de catalog on page 11. Marklin called the green one ce800 and the brown one a ceb800. Both with same road number of E 63 02 The catalog doesn't show the parts for replacement like the pickup shoe, brushes or lamps.

Thanks steventrain for the model(s) confirmation and also for all the updates on Marklin you provide.

Hey guys I am new to Marklin trains, just got a box from my father. Not a very large collection, though. But while scrolling through marktplaats pages (dutch second hand website, similar to ebay) I stumbled upon a train that bears a striking resemblance to a one my father gave to me. Link: http://hobby.marktplaats...800-collectors-item.html <--- It is a brownish red train that says CE800 E6302 on the side. Asking price for this train is 135 bucks(!) The only difference is that mine is dark green. It also says CE800 E6302 on the side. I checked the internet but I can't seem to find it. It looks a heck of a lot like this one; http://www.treinenzaak.nl/shop/products/3036/ It also has the metal bars in the side, BUT the two stumps on its roof are grey, not red. The only other trains I found that look like mine and have grey stumps on the roof are all the brownish red versions. I was hoping someone here could tell me what kind of train I am holdng here, and how special/rare it is?

Thanks a lot!

In this link, there is both the image of the model and wiring diagram and spare part numbers.
If you have a printer, then take a copy - it's not safe to assume that Märklin continue to have this side-lying on their side.
Philip.

Let's keep it simple.
