Proir to getting my Marklin starter set I had never seen the style of couplers used on European models. Having so little experience I am not sure if there is any tricks or adjustments I can do to make them work better. My BR50 has a telex coupler on the back but I find the operation hit and miss for decoupling the cars.

If anyone has any tips or tricks they can pass on I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

there was a thread a few weeks back where the magnet in the telex coupler is holding to the car that is being released. you should search for that.

As dndtower85 says; first make sure that your loco is not having a magnetising problem.
Other than that, the "trick" is just to make sure that the couples are "relaxed", not "streched" when trying to uncouple. With that I mean; once you stop the train, move a little back (in reverse), say maybe 5mm (or 1/4"). That will permit the loop to lift free from the hook.
Then with the TELEX still activated, move the loco away from the waggon(s).

Magnetism should not be problem with BR50 since the telex is on the tender and not on the locomotive where the magnet is. Like hxmiesa says, no tension on the couplers. I got better at using telex the more I played with it. Have fun.
