First off, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everybody!

Santa left a BR610 (#34761), that needs some TLC, under the three for me.
So first thing to do is to install a missing slider, a 7164 according to the manual, but the question is how to do that?
Manual say, just to screw it on like any other lok... but there is no contact plate that would transfer the current.... Am I missing something?

Regards

Hi, and merry xmas to all.
First of all, I would make sure yours is a centre conductor (3 rail) version? And not 2 rail (hamo or trix)
If definitely 3 rail, then I'd take a look at that red wire wrapped around the 2nd axle - i would guess thats the feed wire and one end is loose and should be soldered to a tab that the slider would sandwich between it and the plastic bogie when screwed down. If the tab is missing altogether, you could solder it direct to the slider.
Hope this helps

Hi
It seems to me you have a 2-rail version as we can see clearly the wheel sliders
Sans titre.png
So almost surely your reference is not correct.
The 34761 appeared on the 2000-2001 catalogue page 108 and is a Fleischmann model
34781.png (1,139kb) downloaded 10 time(s).
The following year it disappeared from the Märklin catalogue
I cannot access the explosions diagram nor the spare parts list.

So what are the Fleischmann sliders? You bogie does not seem to have a slider interface
Alternately you may be dealing with a Fleischmann model (nothing to do with Märklin) so you will have to make some mechanical adaptations and some wiring.
You may also want to have non-insulated axles for better occupancy detection
Cheers
Jean

Thank you Charles And Jean

It is definitely a 3 rail and a Marklin, #34761, says so on the box and the bottom of the train....
Has a 5* motor and the 6090 type decoder.
The contacts on the wheels, only one of them has a solder tap. A brown wire is soldered to it that goes to the decoder board, the red wire also goes to that board but is obvious cut at the bogie. It has non insulated axles.
The exploded parts diagram and manual are included but don't really help...
I am baffled....

Hi Jean Pierre
Maybe this kind of slider (Märklin E206370) would fit into the 4 holes
- 13 mm center to center between square holes lengthwise
- 8 mm transverse grip
- 50 mm slider total length

Another view of the fixing bracket

This is now a very common Märklin slider
I hope this helps

Hi Jean

I initially thought that was the slider that needed to be used and not the #7164 as the parts diagram and the manual suggest....
But that slider does not work because the holes in the plate on the underside of the bogie are closer together then the pins on the slider.
I can not find anything on YouTube either where people do an upgrade on the train and there might be a close up on the slider / bogie connection....

Regards
Jean-Pierre

Hi Jean Pierre
Märklin has many sliders in its sleeves
This one is the E225 647
It is used on quite a number of recent locos (BR 24 and others)
Here is the overall view
Grips are oriented OUTSIDE unlike the previous one

Here is a closer view on the bracket
Notice the outward-looking grips

I hope this one fits better
Here is how it looks on the loco

You've got a nice model. I have the Fleischman DC 2 rail analog version. You could upgrade it with a sound decoder and led interior lighting.
