Is there any way to transfer information from a CS2 to a CS3? And if not would transferring it to a CS3+ and then from the CS3+ to the CS3 be possible?

You can take a backup on your CS2 and restore the backup on your CS3. Loco list and articles will be transferred but track plans are not for much use.

Have fun with your CS3

I also recently upgraded from a CS2 to a CS3+. It was not as easy as I thought it would be. When I restored the CS2 backup to the CS3+, none of the loco images were transferred over, so I needed to add all the loco images. I have almost 150 locos, all digital, so it took some time.

As issue I am having is with ESU decoders. I don't have many, but when trying to change the configuration of the decoder I get the message "The decoder has a changed firmware and is re-registered for security reasons". If I try again, I get the same message. Does anybody have any suggestions on what I can do? I don't have any problems with MM or MFX decoders.

Another question I have is, can I use my 6017 booster if I hook it up to my CS2 and make the CS2 a slave to the CS3+? I use the booster to power several 6083 decoders for some of my switches.

I can't tell you anything about the 6017 booster but our club layout runs with a CS2 slaved to a CS3+. The CS2 has its own power supply. The CS2 has internal switches that need to be set for it to function as a slave. You also need a cable to connect the two and unfortunately eBay suddenly has some weird requirements for me to access my account. There is a YouTube video on the connection you need to watch.

My guess about the problems with the loco pictures, is that the backup only contains a reference to a file name which contains the picture, and the names and picture sizes has changed for CS3.

Regarding old 6017 boosters, then I have decided to skip the old booster's. We have made the same decision in my club.

Both home and in the club, we have a separate bus for switch decoders and signal decoders, connected to it's own 60174 booster, and this is a very good decision, now we have started using the new m83 (60832) mfx decoders. You can not use mfx with old 6017 booster's.

I have never tried to connect a 6017 booster to a CS2 slave, but I think that there is a good chance for it is working.

Best regards

Marklin 60123 is the cable needed to connect a CS2 to a CS3+ and use it as a slave.

Thanks. I already have the 60123 cable on order and hopefully will receive it soon. Does anybody have an idea about the issue with ESU decoders?

I just ran an ESU sound decoder on my layout with an updated CS3+ and it ran with no problem. Not sure about the other ESU decoders.

I was having problems configuring it. It is working OK now, so it was probably user error.

Hi Alex,

I’m having this issue now, I did a seperate post.

Did the issue just go away by itself?

It’s such a strange thing and annoying.

Regards,

Eddie
