I have a CS2 Central Station. This loads and then turns black.
What can be done to get this back up so I can use it?
Thanks for all the help!

How old is your CS2.
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

I am not sure, because it's my brothers... but it's some years I think. It's Märklin 60215 - 23-AA-1225431

Hi
Märklin does not repair CS2 since a few years. I have two of them (60215)
- One does not boot fully. The start image is there but the progress bar never stops growing and the two speed controllers are never displayed
- the other fonctions almost fully except the programming track output is dead

In your case, it would be insteresting to know:
- when the screen gets dark, is the unit still working?
- what kind of power supply are you using (transformer or switched power supply)?

If the problem could be limited to a display (or back light issue) then I think you may find those
Here is my 60215 display . Notice the 3 cables:
- the video connection
- the touchscreen connection
- the back light connection

For this kind of issue, Märklin used to change the motherboard but it is not available anymore
Here is one of mine (opposite side to the screen

Ideally, if you can set the 60215, connected to internet so as to request an update immediately after booting up, it may save the day sometimes
Another possibility is to RESTORE the LEER file (empty) so as to become like when it left the factory.
Cheers
Jean

Hello, Jean. Thank you very much for your reply.

I start it up, it shows the start image for quite some time after it loads up, it varies a little how long it takes before it goes black.
Yesterday when I tried, it didn't respond until after approx. 50 minutes at a time.
The next time I tried it went dark right after loading...

How do I get it connected to the internet and what should I do? press down on it to refresh?
I tried with an cs2.dmg / cs2update.img file from a usb memory card as well.
The problem is that I don't see anything there and don't know what to press?

Thanks for reply.

Regards., Geir ArneIMG_2086.jpeg

Hi

Power Supply: you are using a Märklin 60061 which is an excellent solution (way better than a transformer)

How to connect to internet? Simply plug into the CS2, a CAT5 cable (Ethernet cable) to your Internet / TV box.
The CS2 knows whicg number to call BUT will seek your approval before getting an update.

No sure what happens to your CS2 but the little I know is this:
- early CS2s (60213 and early 60214) had key flaws (no galvanic insulation, feed-back issues) but this is not your case
- many CS2 users describe that the way many CS2 die is by not completing the booting up properly
Here is my good CS2 booting-up properly

You will notice 57 seconds into the video, a green arrow being displayed in the center of the screen.
This shows that the second stage of the cold start is proceeding correctly.

On my faulty CS2, the green arrow is never displayed and the progress bar goes fully to the right.

My personal experience:
- when this cold start issue starts showing, be patient, with an internet connection to the CS2 and as soon as it boot'up (it may happen sometimes), quickly, ask for an update
- in my case, it fixed the problem for a few month (6 to 8 I don't remember) but sadly, it will re-occur.
- Some German modelists say it has to do the the solid state memory (where the program is stored), which has some levels of auto repairs (alternate sectors) but after a while all back-up ressources have been used and it does not work any more.

In your case, the turning OFF of the screen is the key thing.
Do try to illuminate externally your screen when it goes dark. Sometimes you may see a very faint image and you may still proceed with calling M Tante in Göppingen: starting an update. In some cases, the unit may be fully operational but the back lighting shuts off

Cheers
Jean

Hello again

Thanks for all the help.

I wonder how to see itt when it asks for an update when the screen is black?
By the way, I saw the green arrow one of the times I tried this yesterday, but somehow it didn't go any further. Isn't it about time it shows up?

Is the button to be pressed at startup or something I have to do there?

I will try again tonight.

With kind regards, Geir Arne

Hi Geir

How do I get to see a black screen?
Sometimes, when only the back light is problematic, illuminating the screen with a strong external light is enough to see (OK, not clearly) the displayed text.
Another possibility, is to connect your CS2 to the CS2.exe of Märklin. In this case, you take remote control of the CS2 using a regular PC and a CAT5 cable.

All this would be in the hope that you have only a backlight issue (not often but happens sometimes)
My son's computer has such an issue and one can faintly see the screen but connecting an HDMI to his TV allows to see the screen. This is an example to show sometimes the backlight fails.

Note: what is encouraging in your case is that you see the green arrow in the screen's center: Probably the full cold start is made.
I have the file to install CS2.exe but cannot use the forum to send it to you so let me know if you are interested.
Cheers
Jean

But it's most be possible to use a program from my mac too?

But I shall try with stronger light in the evening.

Another way is to use a web browser to connect to the cs, and that will repeat the cs screen.
