Some time ago I bought the two Hobbytrain sets for Marklin of the Wien-Nizza-Cannes Express, which is one of the Orient Express trains. Each set has two bogie coaches plus a 3 axle baggage car. These sets are still current availability.

The boxes are clearly labelled "AC". According to the instructions the coaches come fitted with LED internal lighting, plus there is info on how to add a digital decoder. It is not said as to whether this means a decoder in each coach or shared between several coaches, but there are no conductive couplers fitted.

However, there is no pick up shoe on any of the coaches. There are wheel wipers. There is no obvious way to add a pickup shoe.

Any advice from members ? Does someone perhaps have either or both of these sets and can explain ? Have I perhaps received 2 rail sets wrongly labelled as ac ? I should point out that despite the wheel wipers on each end of the axle, the wheel sets ARE ac.

regards
Norm in Oz.

It might not be the same but my Piko cab coach needed a decoder for the running lights to work. The decoder kit came with a slider and instructions on fitting so it maybe that Hobbytrain is the same.

I believe that those are actually manufactured by LS Models for Hobbytrain/Lemke.

As far as I can tell, there are two sets to make up the complete 6 coach consist.

You can use current conducting couplers to feed the power to the coaches from the locomotive.
If you want to find out if there is a specific AC slider that can be mounted on these coaches, you should contact

Lemke https://www.lemkecollection.de/de/Kontakt
LSM info(at)lsmodels.com

You can also try contacting Huenerbein.de to see if they have any suggestions on how to equip the models with power feed, decoders, etc.

Regards

Thanks Mike for that helpful suggestion. Those are the two sets I have. I have sent an enquiry now to the address you suggested, and will see what happens
