Dear all, How much oil do I put in, when I fill the smoke unit up? As I don’t want to brake the oil burner. Also. Should I only use Marklin smoke oil for the unit, 72270 Or Can I use other smoke oils, designed to smell like real steam locomotives for instance?

I follow instructions from the manufacturer and fill 0.2 ml from a syringe. It's up to you how much you fill in ...
... but with too much fluid you get no smoke.
The reseller writes "6 drops", but I only find that confusing. Buy from the manufacturer and you get a suitable syringe with the smoke generator.

Märklin are just a reseller for the Seuthe fluid. Compare prices for Seuthe fluid and Märklin fluid and get the cheaper one.
I haven't tried other fluids in Seuthe smoke generators. Reports say that SR24 works fine, but I don't wanna take any risk with my smoke generators.
Regards
Tom

Hi, I didn’t get a syringe with my smoke generator kitCrying or instructions? Just a hazard notice. It was new from Modellbahn Kramm who’s service has dropped, I think.
Thanks for your help on the oils. My local model shop sells smoke oil that smells like steam smoke. I will see what make it is.

That's the problem when you buy Seuthe smoke generators in a Märklin box: the most useful accessories are missing and the instructions make no sense.
Buy a smoke generator in a Seuthe bag and you will have a useful syringe.

Hi,

4-6 drops is ok. Also SR24 works fine, but the smell is different.
Seuthe/Märklin smoke oil has the "right" smell which brings childhood to your mind Woot

Cheers

Hi Dan,
I have been using this stuff for 20-30 years. It never went stale and the smell is just like the old Marklin fluid.
Take a trip down to the local pharmacy and get a regular eye dropper 7-8 drops are fine.

I suspect the LGB smoke oil is also repackaged Seuthe oil.

I have also heard that musicians valve oil (as used on the valves on trumpets and similar instruments) also makes good smoke oil.

Another possibility is the ESU smoke oil, which I beleive is different to the Seuthe oil, and has to be used in the smoke units of ESU locos, but is also OK in Seuthe smoke units.

I recently purchased some Marklin smoke fluid. The first thing I noticed, it is no longer lemon scented. When did they change that? (I think I'm dating myself with that question!)

Cheers,

Harold.

I'd use the fluid recommended by the smoke unit manufacturer and not mix and match as the cook off temp of the fluid needs to match the smoke units heating characteristics. I picked up the Märklin unit (a Seuth unit) along wit a bigger bottle of fluid and then got a dropper dropper pippett that any model shop of drug store sells.

Just a handful of drops is enough to fill the smoker as they don't have a lot of room. Overfilled or with air trapped they don't smoke, which can be fixed.
Toys of tin and wood rule!

Hi All,

I use a serynge and fill the Seuthe smoke generator and then putting the tip of the needle 8 to 10 mm inside it, I get back the liquid until air is coming un the syringe.
Any used small serynge will do.
Now I use fluid less and less as it covers my locos with oily splashes and it cuts out very rapidly.
Seuthe smoke tubes have 2 ends; one with 90° angle cut and the second with a 45° angle cut. When the first end is down, smoke production is smaller but lasts longer
Happy new year

Jean

Judging from their product descriptions I bet that Viessmann/Vollmer are just reselling Seuthe smoke generators and smoke fluid.
