Marklin Fans,

This topic might have already been beaten to death, but I wasnt able to find this discussion thread easily.

I am considering to buy a CS2. But I am not sure if CS3 would be completely suppressing the CS2 in the near future.
Or is this the first step of Marklin to obsolete CS2 in the coming months?

Thanks
Vijay

The CS2 was discontinued, but the CS3 is not yet available.

Time will tell how many upgrades the CS2 will see once the CS3 is out.

Your decision.
The CS2 with physical function keys beside the screen which may never support more than 16 functions from the UI (as some dealers wrote).
Or the CS3 without those physical function keys, but with support for 32 functions with the new mfx decoders.

And both come at similar prices.
Regards
Tom

The decision to go with CS2 or CS3 is dependent on you and how you like to work with gadgets.

If one does not mind getting the latest and greatest, knowing that there will be some bugs to be worked out and that there may be poor English documentation (but decent German documentation), then go ahead. I would wait for the CS3...but I have patience to put up with that stuff and understand German enough to not get frustrated when a German warning pops up.

If you just want something to work well and not have issues, get the CS2. The manual has been recently updated in English and it is a reliable controller....I have one and like it very much and do not have the $$$ for a new controller when the CS2 works well. That $$ is better spent on loks, trains and track!BigGrin

That will change once the CS2 is no longer in stock but the CS3 is in stock.Blink

Hopefully by then, the bugs are worked out, the manuals correctly translated and that there is good feedback from this forum.ThumpUp

I suggest you wait to get one CS3.
It´s more advanced central station than CS2.
With CS3 you can start use perhaps (?) all functions with M4 ESU locomotives.
So far you can handle all functions by use DCC.
With CS2 there is only 16 functions with mfx/M4 protocol.
I´m thinking about to get one CS3,but decides to wait at the autumn.
The new CS3 arrives out under this summer.

Not having any CS (yet-maybe), but having purchase technology for 30+ years:
It depends on what you want/need the CS for.

If you intend to go to computer automation and really just need the CS to be a signal bridge/interface to hook up all of the various layout things, and provide some simple ability to control some trains on the layout on occasion: the CS2 is probably the better buy (assuming you can get it at a substantial discount to what a new CS3/3Plus will cost)

If you intend to use the CS for layout control and as the primary usage interface in your layout, get the CS3/3Plus. But understand there will be the usual growing pains of firmware bug fixes over the first year or two.
